Default Part 141

Do 141 schools require you to do your ground school through them, or can I take an online class and get my knowledge test out of the way first? This is for my instrument rating.

It depends on their set up with the local fsdo. If they submitted a tco with a ground and flight combined you have to do the ground school with them. Otherwise you can do a separate training. Of course if a school says no then you have to abide their rules.
I highly recommend the classroom environment. The discussion sessions teach you a lot

Our school has ground schools but that doesnt mean you HAVE to do them... it just means you cant receive any credit hours wise from the ground school. And is most cases part 141 ground 1 on 1 is expensive. So it behooves you to just do the ground schools.

It depends on what the 141 syllabus of your school calls for.

A lot of the Cessna pilot centers that are 141 use the king schools dvds. And there are a bunch of smaller schools and fbos that use Jeppesen or Sporty's software.

You have to find out what your school does, but if they have a formal classroom groundschool you will have to attend it to complete your rating part 141. If they do something online like Jepp, Sporty's, etc., you might have to officially enroll in the course at the school before you start the ground stuff. Check with the school, but I would think most schools would help you get ground stuff out of the way if their 141 syllabus allows it. Also, some schools that have classroom ground school might let you have writtens done before you start, some won't.

Thanks, guys. I called and learned that they use King's Cleared For Approach. I can go through it and if I finish it before I get there, they'll sign me off for my written.
