Is an aviation career worthwhile?

Ok. First off,i am now in a 2-yr college and planning to transfer to UND next fall for a aviation degree.
What i am trying to do right now is to get my CPL then try to get a job in Cathy Pacific. Heard some rumor about its bad paid but according to its website i can starts as a SO (after few months training) with around $6G/mo. that actually sounds pretty good to me.
I also got around $110K from my dad for college, and i guess that should be enough.

I just want to know what you guys think about it.

I don't know much about Cathay, but I've heard what they pay you isn't enough to live in HKG.

There are several threads about it if you do a search though. Good luck :)

yeah..i spent a few hours doing research and seems that being a SO in cathy is pretty depressing..
But then again if i survive that, according to its website Cathay Pacific - Careers : Careers Home
being in that hellhole for a few years can get me a pretty good paid job..

What i want to know from you guys is, does this whole "planning" thing sounds good to you guys? Like, getting a CPL form school than get a job as cadet?

That is a good resource I'm sure for their side of the story and since it is basically a recruitment website- take it for what it is intended for - but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
I mean would you be so willing to except everything on the US Army's recruiting website as the gospel if you were looking into joining the Army or would you be rather skeptical? ;) I've sure you've heard about the similarities between a Recruiter and a Politician who's speaking right?

If u have $110K avail from daddy.....then I doubt you will be able to stomach this industry for long.

I suggest you read the following before wasting his/your money.

Mod note: I read the title of this thread about 4 times and had no clue what it was trying to say. So, I made something similar up as a guess. Please use sensible diction at APC!

Read the whole thing, that's why i am re-considering my decision.

And, yeah, sorry bout the topic. Didn't even notice myself.

Buy a house

Buy a house with the 110K and work for a grocery store for spending money. You will be set for life.

Arnoldc6

Are you American? That has a huge bearing on employment at CX.

Yep. But then i was born in HKG so technically i am a legal citizen of Hong Kong (which i thought would help with my chance of getting hired) I was hoping to based in HKG and not go back to the states till i retired- my girl friend live there.

no offense but just that i am an liberalist. And yeah, the type that against war.

As Trotsky taught us, "you might not be interested in war, but war is interested in you".

Not sure how the CX Cadet program works, but it is very competitive, very pedantic, and challenging.
