Default My take on the FOI test

Upon learning (here on APC) that the FAA changed the question/answer database I knew I was to take a different approach to studying the test. I had already read the 9 chapters on the Aviation Instructor's Handbook, but just like reading any textbook, there is no way one (at least not me) can retain the concepts. My next step was to go over the 2012 Edition of the Gleim book. I knew it was obsolete, but my goal was to hone in those concepts well by answering sample questions. I prepared myself 3 days to really grasp the material. I did this by going back to the textbook and typing up an outline. I also referenced the Gleim outline. This gave me an opportunity to re-read the text. I took the test this morning and got a 78%. I was very disappointed at first, but then realized I did the best I could. This is by far the hardest and the lowest scoring written test I have taken thus far. Maybe the Gleim's, King's and Jepessen's will catch up to these questions in a few years. But until then, my best advise for prospective test takers is to read and go through the material on the FIH. I highly recommend making your own outline. I would have been a tad bit more happy to have an 80%. Oh well, can't win 'em all! I hope to compensate (a term used in the FIH) for this awful score by acing the knowledge test. All in all, I think I studied much harder and retained a higher level of knowledge than I would have memorizing the answers. The FAA was definitely successful in making me work hard. Good luck to all!
