Picking Colleges ~ Aviation Degrees

I am a veteran of OEF (with Post 9-11 GI Bill), and currently go to school at a University where there is no Aviation program available, I have been reading many threads on this site, and searching through many .edu websites trying to find the best school's with great VA's and equipment. I have always wanted to be a professional pilot since I could remember. Now since things are starting to calm down in my life, I can finally start looking!

My best results are currently UND, K-State, & FIT, which are the best? Or are there more?

Thank you

Thank you for your input! FIT is looking pretty good, plus my fraternity it there also :), but some are saying that Florida is a bad place to train since the weather is perfect (most of the time, except daily rains). Some say new students are better off with more poor training weather conditions.

Check out Palo Alto College in San Antonio Texas, two year degree with affiliation with Texas A&M Central Texas for four year degree.

FIT!!! I loved it. Which Fraternity? I was the TKE President and worked closely wth all the other chapters on campus! Great school, great time, a bit on the pricey side for sure, but all in all, a great experience.

ATO has been on campus since 2006 I believe. I know from talking to my guys down there, that they are going through a rough patch (low numbers), could probably use the help of an alumni advisor! Anyway, FIT was great... Have fun wherever you end up going!

First, thanks for your service.

I'm currently active duty (USMC) and looking to get out in June. I recently returned from a tour of K State @ Salina and their program there. Although it's a small town/calm area, they've got a pretty good program lined up with a good sized fleet. Also, if you're from the Midwest, you know how nice the people can be.

Just my two cents.. Good luck!

+1 for FIT. I'm a recent grad. Yes its expensive, but they give out a lot of money in scholarships and grants, every single Aero professor is awesome, and there's stuff to study there besides just aviation so there's a variety of students (still a Tad short on the females though)...

Check out Jacksonville University. The aviation program is housed by the college of business, so you end up with a business degree in addition to your flight training. Plus it has a huge variety of majors so you can take some pretty cool classes as electives. I know one of the aviation guys that is taking a glass-blowing class as an elective. The flight training is fantastic, and the fleet has great variety: Private in a Cessna 172, Instrument in a Cirrus SR-20, Commercial-Multi in a Piper Seminole, and Commercial-Single through CFII in the Cirrus SR-20 (with the exception of part of CFI that's in a Piper Arrow). Also Jacksonville University has a lot of scholarship opportunities. I got into both JU and Embry-Riddle when I was applying to schools, but chose to come to JU because it's about half the price. Even without a scholarship it's still significantly less (and better training in my opinion).
