If you think about it, no training is specified for the ATP. There's time requirements and proficiency requirements (this is outside a type rating of course).

If you're flying to tight precision anyway - as all of us should aspire - you already have "passed" the checkride.

As stated, I just took the plane over to the FSDO and did the ride so no examiner's fee. As for the FAA most of the failure rate perception is just hype and hearsay. If you actually download the pass/fail data it's almost identical between pass/fail for DPE or FAA. Again, if you're flying to tight standards should not matter who you test with. Besides, my examiner of "choice" for myself and students was Howard Fried, formerly of the Flying Magazine Eye of the Examiner column (later Avweb author). Howard was one tough and gruff DPE.

Hello, I just got my instrument rating at horizon aviation in Chesapeake and the only thing I paid for was the rental of the aircraft on my check ride, I have 100% post 9/11, I plan to go Back for comm/multi as well, real nice airplanes as well. Feel free to pm me if you need more info!
