A320, 737 or 756/767 type rating
Having recently complete my ME add on, I would like to add a type rating with HPA. I spoke to them recently and they sounded like a really good option to train with. Many forums mention the fact that some of their instructors come from SW and still have the connections to get you an interview. (not sure if is true or not)
I would like to become an attractive candidate if the big boys start hiring again, in the meanwhile I continue to do local instruction. Any insides as to which type rating should I get, keeping in mind that the GI BILL is picking the tab for this training.
Thanks

Take a look at who requires types or what type ratings might be required by future employers. Southwest and the 737 are the only ones I know of and higher power is a great place to train. Some corporate operations also might take a type rated pilot but the 737 type rating or other airliner might scare them off. Lots of employers in corporate aviation but connections are the key. Good luck

Just think twice about this though. With the new 1500 hour rule, time will be worth more than a type rating which, by the way you need an ATP to have. So spend that money on building multi time if anything, or CC time in general.

Thread hijack, you can have a type rating on a PVT. You will be held to the ATP standards which is why the type will jump to the COMM or ATP level when you get one in the same category and class as the type.

Oh then, my mistake sir, i assumed you had only a private. if thats the case then go for it. I don't know if you wanna spend all your flying time in the usa, but i hear there are a few asian carriers hiring 737 f/o's with no experience in type. Actually I've even heard unconfirmed reports that they are so desperate, they are accepting no jet time as well-just another option you may want to look into.
Best of luck in this industry.
