Looking to sell block of money at TMB, Miami

I am looking to sell a block of $2000 or $2500 at TMB airport in Miami at ADF airways academy. This is money on account that will be transfered to your account, I think you have a year to use it, but check with the school, maybe it just can not sit inactive for a year. I can sell $2500 for $2000 or sell $2000 for $1600. I will also take offers. Great multi time builder!

Why don't you get a refund?

Two things going on here, I am helping someone who had to move for a job get rid of the time. He tried to get a refund, but like most schools, this place is NO REFUNDS! Spend it or lose it, or you can give it to someone else.

This is a fairly large school and I think this is a good deal, esp if you are in the area. It is even better if your at this school and will need to buy more time anyway soon.

Spend it or use it!?
How about you try small claims court?
Most flight school contracts are not written balanced enough (i.e. everything is slanted in the schools favor) that many courts will not recognize it as a legally binding contract.
I'm not a lawyer btw, so take my advice for what it is. A good flight school will reimburse money on account as it is not the schools money until you have spent it anyways. If your "friend" received a discount for depositing a large amount of funds upfront, he should expect to lose the discount prior to being refunded.

At my school, we will refund money on account less a $50 service charge and removing any dscount given for the block purchase. I don't know if we legally have to or not, that is just our policy.

I think a well written letter from a law firm will persuade them to just refund your money.
(law firms tend to be a little more intimidating)

Unless you signed a specific contract that said the money belongs to the flight school no ifs, ands, or buts, then the school has no legal recourse to keep the funds. Even so i would still get an attorney to send a threatening letter. You'd be surprised how quickly they will take you seriously.

If the money is a deposit for a contractual purchase (ie a formal flight training program) then it might be legal to not give refunds.

But if it's just on account, and the owner is not committed to a specific "purchase" (ie training program) then they probably have to refund it.
