Yes there are ways to get the company to help. Not many people have done it but in the past, instructors have taken a 2$ hr cut to recoup the cost of their training. That being said, you have unlimited access to the sims free of charge. You have all the resources to prepare adequately for them. Ground schools are continually going on which you are free to sit in on. We have an in house DPE that is great. (I've taken 3 checks with him.) Most of the instructors here wouldn't charge you anything for instruction or sign off. (I've done 7 MEI guys and didn't charge them.)

So yes there are ways to get it done and most likely your cost would be significantly decreased.

Honestly, I am trying to compare you guys and Transpac. They pay salary vs hourly. Which makes it really apples to oranges. Not that pay is the only factor, but it can make a big difference.

I have heard good and bad about both places in this and other forums. The more info the better when trying to make these decisions.

I guess the bottom line questions is: Can you keep a roof over your head and eat while working here?
Everyone has their own situations which range from end to end of the spectrum.

Can I promise you'll be successful? Absolutely not. But we have guys scrapping the walls to guys who have families and doing great. It all depends on how hard you work, how well you can adapt to teach the Chinese, how many hours you want to work, and many other aspects. Typically, the guys that are struggling are the ones who can't handle and manage a full student load. Are you going to get a 30k salary, no but we have guys making that easily.

One thing remains though, I honestly doubt you can build time faster than any other place in the country.

Denton has two colleges in town so cheap housing is pretty easy to find. Most of our single instructors either share apartments with other instructors or students from the colleges.

Does anyone has a gouge on the interview questions? Or does anyone know of what the week of standardization consists of?

Default Questions - Please help

Hi,

I am looking to relocate to the Denton area and maybe join the US Aviation Academy. I heard is a great school to work. I am a CFII with 1000 TT and about 600 dual given. My questions are:
  1. How much you get paid per hour, for primary and advanced instruction ?
  2. Do you get paid for the pre and post flight ?
  3. How many students do you get as soon as you get hired ?
  4. How many hours of one on one ground instruction, I am supposed to give to a student ? Do I get pais for these hours ?
  5. How many hours of PIC I need in order to teach in their multi's.?
And..last. for how much I can find an apartment on the Denton area; something decent, nothing very expensive but close to the airport.

Thank's to all

Pay starts at 15$/hr and moves up to 21$ based on time and experience. Every student gets pre and post flight which you will get your normal hourly pay rate for all of it. Every student does get 1 on 1 instruction of which you receive your normal rate. How much depsnd on the rating youre teaching. Because we have a shortage of instructors, the ratio is 4 students to 1 instructor with quite a few that have more. There is no PIC requirement for multi as it is a seniority/ perfomance based selection. Right now we have problems with a lot of senior guys with no MEI so the selections are getting pretty low in the seniority.

As far as appartments, I really can't comment accurately however there are two colleges in town so housing typically isn't hard to find.

PM me with any other questions. I also can walk your resume to the hiring guy and I also do a lot of interviews too.

Cheers

Thank you Muredhawk. I will prepare my resume.

A couple more questions , with my experience how much you estimate I will be making per hour as a CFII. 1000 hours 600 dual given. What is the average you fly with an student per day (ex. 1.5, 1.6, 2.0..etc) ? Can you fly with the same student twice a day ; if requested by the student ? If the weather gets bad, am I aloud to do some ground with the student and save the day ?

Have a great day !!

With your experience level, you'll be more experienced then a lot of people here. So I don't think it would be a far shot to start at 17. I'll have to ask. Average flight time depends on which curriculum you are teaching. I would say 1.3 to 1.5 in private and a bit longer in Instrument. However, you can bid for longer flight blocks if you want longer flights. A lot of instructors bave no problem timing out every day. You can fly with a student twice if you like. Bad weather can be good opportunities to do ground but it is always more beneficial to group up all your students and charge them equally. The contract briefing times are limited on the Chinese side. There is no limit on the international/ domestic side but you have to deal with students complaining about brief times.
