I'm the best pilot on this site
I've been towing gliders in an Ag Wagon (C-188) since early spring... have been making an average of 50 landings in it per week for the last 4 months or so. On my last landing of the day last weekend I came closer to ground looping than I ever have before in my 200+ hours of tail wheel time. Honestly, it was probably the worst landing I've made since I was a student pilot. Luckily I recovered, everything was fine, and the most important part, there were no witnesses.
The lesson is you're never good enough to not mess up. Fatigue and overconfidence were both factors I think. |

It takes a true professional pilot to admit and own their mistakes and learn from them.
I tip my hat to you, sir. Glad it turned out alright and you learned something. Cheers! |
Never forget that a tail wheeled aircraft is never done flying until its turned off, parked and tied down!
Kudos for admitting that it can happen to the best of us! |
I did half a ground loop in a 185F Skywagon once due to having the seat in a position where I couldn't reach the toe brakes. No damage fortunately but I learned my lesson.

I had my fresh PPL a few years ago when I came inches from taking out the runway lights at my home airport. Crosswind and overconfidence......scared the holy crap outta me. It's not if but when......hopefully my next F up won't be for awhile.

In 2007 Bob Bragg the co-pilot of the Pan Am 747 at Tenerife in 1977 did a presentation at the NTSB runway incursion forum. 30 years after the event one bullet point on his last slide read, "Anyone, no matter how well qualified can make serious mistakes"
Kudos for admitting it. P.S. After a couple thousand hours of jet time I "dropped" a 604 in so hard in Lauderdale I thought I broke the china. Guy sitting next to me never said a word...why, I don't know. |

A couple of years ago I got checked out in a 172, just did 3 touch and goes with a CFI and was good to go (I had previous rental history at this place from years back). The next day, I came in for a full stop landing and blew the left main tire... Two long skid marks lead up to the tires - doh! That's what happens when you're an idiot that has been flying an airplane with anti-skid for too long! Funny thing is I had absolutely NO idea that I was pressing the brakes that firmly. Figured I was just lightly pressing them like I always did in a 172. I think I had at least 1,000 hours in a C172 at the time too, quite embarrassing!
