Again, they know you don't have jet experience, so the aren't expecting perfection.
They may know he has no turbine experience but if other candidates do, it's going to be hard to stand out if he shows up cold.

I seriously doubt they're going to throw emergencies at him during an interview sim eval. Everyone I've ever done is looking at basic handling, basic instrument procedures and scan. It's highly unlikely they'll have him even using a flight director never mind the auto-pilot. They most likely want to see his basic hand flying skills. Good advice in general to use CRM and the other crew member.

Just to clarify another point:
However, as far as division of duties in the cockpit, the flying pilot usually talks on the radio during an emergency. This allows the monitoring pilot (usually the Captain) to run the checklist, coordinate with the cabin crew (if you have them), coordinate with the company if needed, check wx at diversion fields, etc. Once the situation is stable, a plan is formulated and the checklists are complete, the flying pilot will take care of only the flying and give the radios and everything else back to the monitoring pilot. At least that's how it's been done at the companies I've worked for.

Even if it's not an -800
Your sentiments are good, but if he's going to get checked in the -800, use the -800 (NG) sim. It's sooooo different, especially to a newbie. The -200's are so cheap to rent that it's tempting, but it's penny wise and pound foolish.

I just find it strange that they would even talk to him. When I first started this would not have happened. CFI to night checks and freight to low end regional to better regional to major. CFI to turbine? Maybe a 208 turbine but a 73? Wow. Things must have changed. OP- you are not paying anything for this are you?
