CFI work or Multi time around HEF (Manassas)

I live near Manassas Regional, VA (HEF) and am looking to get up as CFI/II/MEI, but not sure which school to try. Anyone have experience with Dulles Aviation, Aviation Adventures, Phoenix Consulting, American Aviation, or others at HEF?
More speciifally, anyone know which is best for multi time building or other opportunities in the area to find some right seat time?

I am an ATP with CE-500, BE-300, and BE-1900 types, but full-time active duty in the area still, so looking to get some more currecny, recency prior to retirement.

Hey dsmith,

Not sure if this info will be helpful since your post was a while back. I did the bulk of my PPL at Manassas Aviation, which was swallowed up by Dulles Aviation in the last few years. I finished up over at AV-ED in Leesburg. I don't have any firsthand experience with Aviation Adventures, but I have only heard good things about them. If you don't mind working out at Leesburg or Winchester, I 100% recommend AV-ED. They run a good operation: it was professional, yet still pretty laid back and not too expensive.

Hope this helps,
Mark

I'm a CFII out of AV-ED in Leesburg, great airport for training and no worrying about waiting and burning hobbs time for a taxi or take-off clearance. There are special procedures in Leesburg due to the SFRA though.

I taught at Dulles Aviation back in 2000. At the time, they treated us well, the pay was better than other schools in the area, and the aircraft were well maintained.

Things might have changed since then, but I had a few bad experiences with AvEd in JYO that turned me off from working or renting there.

YMMV.

I don't know your circumstances, but times do change and no students/instructors share the same experience. I started with AV-ED in 2008 teaching ground schools and it's been a great experience. I did flight training out of HEF with Manassas Aviation Center up until they declared insolvency, did take a look at Dulles Aviation but didn't like that in order to fly their seminole you needed 100 hours with an instructor, not sure if that is still the same for insurance requirements, but our requirements with AV-ED is less strict for the multi. Stop by JYO sometime and say hello to us.

Best,
Dave

I'd recommend trying out Atlantic Airways at JYO. They don't have a HEF office anymore but they do have aircraft types that are more interesting like Cirrus SR20/22, Super Decathlon, DA40s, and if you want it, C172 G1000. It is not a pilot mill school so students are a mostly older with established careers. Most instructors are retired military types (few Air Force, some Navy). They just started a formation clinic which seems to be a big hit teaching basics in DA40s. You might enjoy the camaraderie more at this place I think.
