JamesNoBrakes, thanks for the valuable input! I've been reading a lot of what you have to say! I've heard sit. awareness is pretty high on the list.

Going to have to wave the B.S. flag here... You haven't started training (going to waste your money at a puppy mill), you want to fly for peanuts (in fairness you said "food"), be the best (least crashes or missed approaches lol), AND somehow we are to believe you are 30 and have an FO gig lined up already. How much are you going to pay to sit in that right seat?

11 posts in, troll detector pegged. Roger Cohen, is that you?

Maybe you should lookup the word possible in the dictionary. Nothing is done deal until it is so. Was raised to network that is what I did; little hint for you, if people like you they will help you. And yes I love to fly, am I the only one left here that does? Lastly, to what end does raising the BS flag get you? Can you just help me. You obviously know more, I'm just trying to learn mate.:D

I wish you the best of luck, but you REALLY need to rethink this attitude.
You'll end up miserable no matter how much you think you enjoy flying. I promise.

The only positive advice I can give you is to find ways to stay positive, and never stop being ambitious.

Thanks!! And yes money is important. But I've been mentored to keep in mind that if you are doing it just for the money you will be miserable!

It's not that money is or isn't important to you personally etc... it's "and I don't care who I fly for or what nor care about money". THAT is WHY pilots keep getting jobs paying less and less.

If you don't care who you work for, you'll be flying a sh!tbox with 19 write-ups for a management that doesn't care, getting paid next to nothing, living in an undesirable part of the country all the while bringing the rest of us down just so you can live the dream.

I am writing to this to help you, but it's also self-preservation for myself and on behalf of all the other pilots who have struggled for fair work rules, a decent QOL and fair wages.

Money is most certainly not everything, and I don't suggest you chase the best paying job solely for the money. I just ask you reconsider that you don't care what job it is just so you can fly. Otherwise you're alienating yourself from all those who came before you.

The people who do that the most, I would assume are the best??

Once you have invested thousands of your dollars, and years of your life, just trying to get into this industry, you'll start to care about both who you fly for, and the money.

It happens to the best of us...

Even if you are successful, you become the Best Pilot, and get hired by the Best Airlne, some a-hole CEO, or something like 9-11 will come along and destroy your career.

Ask any of the Best Pilots at American Airlines or United, or Eastern about that.

Planespotta 12-16-2012 03:09 PM

Become the most senior pilot...nobody really cares who the "best" is. Your pay, schedule, equipment ALL depend on how long you have been around.

wizepilot 12-16-2012 03:14 PM

A little modesty and humility goes a long way also...leave the arrogance at the door.

Well, if you are willing to "fly for food" at any point, why should anyone ever pay you anything more? Shouldn't you just be happy to be flying at all times? You're thinking if you do this at some point it will pay off. Management is thinking that if people will do it at any time, they can always find bodies to fly airplanes for that price.
