Bridges for Sale! Careful what You Read.

You know all those articles about "The Upcoming Pilot Shortage!"

Oh look! Here's one!

Demand for airline pilots set to soar - USATODAY.com

And goodie, another!

Airlines Face Acute Shortage of Pilots - WSJ.com

Ohhhh boy! We're in the money! Another! This one is complete with a VIDEO!!

Pilot Shortage - CNBC

What a CROCK! This piece ran in '07. Where were the huge windfalls for pilots this wind-bag predicted?? Let's face it. It's all over the place. A major pilot shortage, just like the end of the world, was supposed to have ruined the flying public's day as far back as the early 70's when "All the WWII guys are gonna retire!" Then it was the "Nam pilots". Now it's the 65 rule. Sh'yeah right! Lies, lies LIES! :D

Most of these articles and news pieces are planted by industry interests, trying to keep supply as high as possible. If you wanna know what's really happening, look to the Bureau of Labor and Statistic report. It says between now and 2020, the outlook for pilot demand is NORMAL. Always has been, always will be. Do NOT believe the lies your flight school is telling you to sell you everything from your discovery flight to your CFI-Multi in one fell check. There will NEVER be a pilot shortage....in the USA. NEVER!

The average is 14% growth per decade. DLS says 11% till 2020.

Everyone has a different perspective it seems, kinda like global warming. More of a possibility for shortages at the lower levels, but absolutely think for yourself when reading articles like those and come to your own conclusions.

If you were in the industry '07, you will recall a mass hiring wave at the majors that had been unseen since pre-9/11. Regionals were canceling flights for lack of crews, and had major delays in training the pilots they had for lack of qualified line check airmen.

Then Age 65 passed and the world fell off a cliff into the greatest financial catastrophe since the Great Depression. You have to think that is going to effect your own career advancement in some significant manner.

Not saying that flight school reps aren't sleazy as used car salesman and will tell you whatever you want to hear, but its not some vast conspiracy either. The retirement numbers don't lie and neither do the strains previously seen on the system in years past. Supply and Demand rules, where you fit in that big picture is subject to much variation.

I've been in this goat roping for longer than that, and I didn't see any flights canceling in '07. Not sure where you got that info, but none of the regionals were backed against a wall. They lowered mins and were hiring strong, but they all kept operating just fine.

I don't recall a "mass hiring wave"at the majors in 2007. Maybe I was just on vacation and missed it.

Anything else I missed as far as major hiring booms ?
