MEALS53VFR -- IFR required reporting points
Missed Approach
Entering Hold
Any altitude leaving
Leaving a Hold
Speed change of 10 knots or 5 percent whichever is greater
500 fpm unable
3 minutes ETA change (Non Radar)
VFR on top
Final approach fix inbound (Non Radar)
Radio malfunctions

Also, you are required to report any unforecast weather conditions as well as any hazardous weather conditions encountered that has been forecast.

This is how I was taught and what I teach. Ultimately, whatever works best for you.

There is a good AOPA article that goes over mnemonic memory aids. As soon as I find it I'll post a link to it in a new thread.

Now, there's also PTATEN for making position reports.
Identification, of course
Position
Time
Altitude
Type of flight plan
ETA and name of next reporting point
Name of the next succeeding reporting point along the route of flight
