Univ. of North Dakota or Western Michigan?
 

Between the University of North Dakota and Western Michigan University which one would y'all say has a better flight program. Personally i think, and have heard that UND is the best of the best. I'm a freshman in college looking to transfer for fall 2013. Embry-Riddle is way too expensive and all the people i have talked to that have gone there didn't really have anything good to say about the school or its program. I live in Houston and to be honest there aren't a lot of colleges down here that offer a flight program and speaking for tuition and board it would actually be cheaper to go to these schools than Baylor or Letourneau both of which are insanely expensive.

Look into Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas. You get all your ratings through CFI and your associates degree for less than 25K. No this is not a joke, it is really that inexpensive. Private costs less than 5K. Great planes, great maintenance and instructors. It is an excellent school and the most inexpensive program in the United States. Afterwords, you can transfer to Texas A&M - Central Texas, also located in Killeen, to finish your Bachelors in Aviation.

BTW do not waste your money on Letourneau, Baylor or TSTC. They are all insanely overpriced. Why go in debt 150K for a job that pays 20K?

I was happy with UND. Wish I had a backup degree too, but overall was happy there. Become a ND resident and get in state tuition. I'm went there from Houston too.

BMC, check outSan Jac. they are paired with aerosim at KEFD. ground is done through San Jac and flying throuh aerosim, at least it was when I was around Houston.

I am a UND Alum and can say, yes, the school is top notch as far as facilities, aircraft and maintenance....
But flying airplanes isn't practicing law or medicine. Don't let them fool you. If you graduate from an Ivy League school you are much more likely to find yourself in a much better position upon graduation. This is NOT the case with aviation.
UND used to offer some reduced minimums at some regionals, but now with the new ATP rule, that will be out as well.
Don't waste your money, go somewhere warm. Have you looked into Auburn?

I recommend attending a school you can afford (more or less), majoring in something else you like, and getting your ratings as you go at some flight school.

CTC and TAMUCT grad here. Ended up getting two degrees and all the way through CFI around 55K. Give it a look. The department chairmen and chief instructor are both great individuals.

Baylor actually has some pretty good scholarships especially if you can score about a 1500 on your math and critical reading SAT combined. I know that sounds high but it is entirely possible with a month or two of hard studying.

TSTC also has a flight program and is cheaper than Baylor.

Another choice would be to go to school full time and get a degree in Engineering (if you like lots of math), business, or just something useful and then go to a flight school during the summer or a 141 school as soon as you graduate.

Also, Texas schools will be your cheapest bet if you live in Texas.

TSTC used to be a good deal, what are the prices now? I know the Baylor/TSTC program was crazy expensive but that was because of the Baylor tuition.
