Can I get part 61 credit for part 141?
 

I am currently doing my commercial time build at a part 141 school. In the interest of saving some money, I am wondering if I could fly a few hours with a part 61 school and then go back to my part 141 school, and still get my license under their program?

I have the entire part 141 syllabus, so I can plan my flights according to their lessons.

Nope you have to do the entire program with the 141 school to get the commercial under 141. You can go the other way. 141 programs have to be done the way the FAA approved it at the school you are attending.

Unless its some super deal you can get your commercial a lot cheaper through a small school.

If you are time building for your commercial, what are their 141 requirements? I ask because I did my pvt/inst/commMEL/&CFI part 141 and there were no time or reduced time requirements for each cert. I had my pvt/inst in hand with 68hrs TT and 31hrs later I had my C-MEL. There was no time building needed. I would have never paid the higher rates of that school (compared to part 61) if I needed to time build. Each school's 141 program is different.

FAR Part 141.77 (c). Remember this you are enrolled in a 141 course. If you step outside for a few hrs, then come back asking for credit from the outside, the school may/will/could, drop you from the course and re enroll you using 25% of the outside hrs you did or 50% of the previous 141 enrollment. Either way you would lose. Stay in the course or drop out and go part 61.

Vari2ty, you are telling me you got a commercial with only 99 hours??????

Yep! The part 141 op-specs (TCO) for the school I went to did not state a minimum time for commercial multi. I did have to do the ride with a DPE instead of in-house but it still wasn't too bad. Everyone was sub 150hrs and a lot of people were sub 120hrs on the day they took their ride. I did my commercial single add-on 6 hrs later.

Each 141 program is certified by the FAA with different minimums based on their training program, that's why I was wondering how much time building the OP had to do because if it was 250hrs, then that schools part 141 program must have some issues.

You learned how to do Power Off 180s, Lazy 8s, Chandelles, Steep Spirals and 8s on Pylons in 6hrs and got proficient at it?

He must have used a "Platinum Seal" flight instructor. I hear they are far superior to the "Gold Seal". I should have done that...

It is 25% of the hours in the 141 syllabus. Total Time: 120 (part 141) equals can count 30 of your part 61 hours. Same is true for the rest of the requirements PIC, night, IFR, ect. You take what they have and can give them 25% toward their 141 syllabus. We offer commercial training with your initial class being multi engine. So we have alot of single engine add ons done in three hours. The way it works is they are training as a commercial single until 105 hours in course. The last 15 hours of the syllabus are in the multi. Thus only needing 3 hours in 60 days under 61 to do their single engine add on.
