Take a look into Kent State in Ohio. Very good program and you won't be afraid of snow or weather.

Anywhere is better then ER. Way too much $$. I went to Louisiana Tech. Great reputation and great price. Stick to a regular university. You will enjoy it more and save yourself years in student loan payments.

Go to a big state school with lots of girls, a good football team, and an AFROTC detachment. Major in something you like, enroll in ROTC, don't be a douche, and work hard. Get a scholarship and pilot slot and bypass ever having to make $22k a year. Come out of college relatively debt free and spend whatever money you have on the side from grants and additional scholarships and get through your private as a minimum and preferably your instrument. Anything else beyond that won't help you at UPT and you'll come out of UPT with your Commercial, Instrument, Multi anyways.

I can't imagine trying to make it in the civilian world these days with the new requirements. It would be one thing if you could get to the majors when you've busted your ass to get to 1500, but when you finally get to 1500 all you have is a ****ty Regional job making $22k a year waiting for you. The Air Force definitely has its negatives and I can't wait to get out, but I can't imagine doing it any other way.

As a Riddle grad though it was almost prohibitively expensive. It was the best 4 years of my life and I was hired before I graduated

Texas A&M University-Central Texas has a great aviation science program. Though they'll require you to do your flying elsewhere.

I'm biased, but Kansas State University has an excellent flight program. You get the best (and worst) of all the weather. Small campus, you get to know everyone. The down side is there aren't a lot of girls on campus, due to the fact it is aviation/engineering. However there are ways to meet a whole lotta people.

University of Central Missouri ($6300/year + Room/Board + Flight Fees).

No matter what, NOT ERAU.

And I recommend a degree in something other than aviation. I have five friends who lost their medicals during their 20's, one got his back but four did not and are now doing things outside of aviation...Options are good things to have. Take note, how many military pilots do you know with a bachelor's degree in Flight Science?

I disagree about the contacts part of aviation colleges embry etc, I went to LETU got no contacts in the real world
I left now I have tons of contacts, own an aircraft, and almost fly everyday

I'd recommend University of Oklahoma. I'm a grad, so I'm biased, but we're a big school (which means sports like Football and lots of other students outside aviation). Trust me, you'll want to meet other students someday. Also we have a solid study abroad program, so you can do a summer or a semester in another country and see the world really cheaply.

Aviation program is pretty solid throughout. Good fleet, good people. Definitely on the cheaper side when compared to some of the big schools for aviation, but it has all the AABI and other accreditation. Similar to Kansas State and OSU.
