Orientation for passenger train engineer May 13th for the DC to NYC line. Have a phone interview with Wiggins today for a C208 run from EWR to BOS. We'll see how they both go. Which one is more of a career, benefits, etc. I'm tired of stepping stones and ready to settle down with one company.

There are flight schools in CA and AZ that pay quite a bit...training foreign cadets on contract.
Asia needs flight instructors desperately. I have been seeing ads lately for flight instructors in Asia...."any licensing agency acceptable"...or something like that.

So here's where I'm at. Interviewed with Wiggins. I was told I had a great interview but there was a pilot with much more turbine and 135 experience than me. They said they would love to have me on board when the time is right. Interviewed with Amtrak and CSX. Got a job with CXS as a freight conductor with an upgrade to engineer. For us pilots that's first officer to captain. Great benefits, perfect retirement, but horrible QOL. Pilots think they have it bad. Look at a railroader's schedule. Have one last interview and that is with Piedmont tomorrow. If I don't get that it's off to the railroad or sending out more applications and resumes since quite a few other regionals have opened up.

No kidding! Plus I start with a salary of $43K. Then add mileage, per diem, etc. On top of that. It'll take some time to work up to that at the regionals. Plus railroad retirement is 98% pension for me and 48% pension for the wife. I love the fact that she gets a pension too just for putting up with the lifestyle. Ask an airline to do that.
