Unemployed

Apparently after 13 years of being a pilot and 7 years as an instructor I don't know how to run a part 141 flight school with 6 instructors and 7 airplanes. Or was it the fact that the owners of the flight school were using some questionable maintenance practices and I called them out on it last night? Either way I was fired because of it last night.

If anyone has any leads I have a wife, two kids, and a furball to feed. Total time: 3600, PIC: 3500, Dual Given: 3000, Cross Country: 1200, Instrument: 150, Night: 85, Multi Engine: 85. Commercial AMEL, ASEL, ASES, Instrument, CFI, CFII, MEI, Ground Instructor Advanced & Instrument.

Where do you live?

I am sorry to hear about your job loss but it very well may be a blessing in disguise. I also have dealt with questionable maintenance and although you were fired, consider yourself taking the higher road. Are you at all interested in working for any of the regionals? Looks like you meet ATP mins.

Firings and layoffs are always tough because we almost never really know the reasoning behind it, and most states with at will employment laws indirectly encourage these seemingly frivolous terminations because there is no financial penalty to be paid for it. Between the conscience of standing by a devoted employee and the extra money it may cost to do that, money always wins. So apply for unemployment, get over your loss, and enjoy a month or two off while looking at a bright future.

Currently about 20 minutes north of Pittsburgh, PA. It is a huge blessing. I just feel for my students, instructors, and dispatchers. Have taken the high road. When informing the FSDO this morning to remove me as chief from the 141 certificate to looks as if things are going to get interesting. Filed out my unemployment paperwork last night. Applied to Peidmont, Plane Sense, Imagine Air, Air Net, Northern States Aviation, Cape Air, Mountain Air, Ameriflight, etc., etc., etc. Not to worried about it all. Papa Johns had a sign out they are looking for delivery drivers. lol

Many companies have inadvertantly shot themselves in the foot or invite trouble from the Feds over releasing required personnel. This also goes for other positions in aviation such as the departure of a head of QC, Etc. You don't need to bad mouth the company at all in those cases; just the fact that you left, for most any stated reason can pique the interest of the FAA into an aviation companies MO. As one door closes, another one opens. Good Luck.
