FAA Knowledge Test Records

Does anyone ever check them? Employers, i.e., flight schools or airlines?

So far I've only done the PPL, and did pretty well. A bit nervous about the instrument test, so I am wondering if I should delay it another week or so just to make sure I do very well on it.

For that matter, what about grades on check rides? I have heard employers don't like to see check ride fails. Airlines are ok up to two fails, IIRC.

They become part of your pria record when you complete the 8710 so employers WILL see them and the scores you got, but this is after you have been offered a job. It reflects your motivation so I would do your best as with anything in your training.

Check rides do matter, even more so after Colgan. Some airlines won't even look at you if you have so many. I personally have two and in the 121 airliners I've gone to both they just asked what happened. I took responsibility and we moved on but I have a friend with 6 busts and he is not even getting calls from anyone with ATP mins plus a ton more.

As far as your instrument rating goes, the big thing I say is RELAX and dont stress yourself out. The only reason you are going on your check ride is because your instructor thinks your ready. This is a big thing ice noticed with my students and as soon as they relax the check ride goes by like nothing.

Not saying you're wrong...but where do you see this in a PRIA check? Only thing I've ever seen from the FAA is that short letter saying "so and so holds the following certificates, medical, etc." and the confirmation of no accidents or incidents.

You can pull your pria through the FOIA and mine was in there. Unless I've been told wrong, this is the exact same info airlines pull under PRIA.

Interesting...when I got on at C5 and here, both times I requested a copy of the FAA records and just got that single letter. I'll have to take a look at the one at the office and see if it matches.

Dl773, of course no failures is better than having one on your record. Private is a relatively common failure, as is CFI initial. The important thing is to make sure in an airline interview you can explain what happened, and why you learned from it. Failing the private ride as a 50-hour teenager is going to mean less to an airline than failing your ATP ride with quite a bit of time. Just do your best and make sure you feel adequately prepared for every ride you do (and written). Your instructor wouldn't send you if he or she didn't think you were!

When I pulled my record under the FOIA, I got that same letter, but 3 months later I got a huge packet of all my 8710's, Change of Address forms...everything. I asked a contact I have that does hiring at Skywest what they see, and he told me they will see that packet with all the 8710's and everything. Of everything you can pull under the FOIA, I think the only ones they do not see is the medical information due to HIPPA or whatever that rule's initials are.

To clarify, I do not think they will see if the results if you failed a written, as those are not attached to an 8710, but any written you use as a basis to apply for the certificate or rating is included.

When I applied at RAH (Turned down that job) there was one PRIA form the did not require that they did for me at C5 (Waiting to go to class there) that had the wording to release the more information on the 8710's. That may be a difference, I will see if I can find that form.

I made an online request through the FAA website:

Make a FOIA Request

Looks like I may have to pay a fee. No idea yet how much it will be.

Thanks everybody!!
