Question CPL under 61 versus 141

Another question for you all. . . here is my understanding of the regs:

Part 141: strict minimum number of hours which is contained in that school's syllabus. Say, the program is 120 hours long, you cannot get your CPL with any less than that. Regardless of how many hours it took you to get your PPL and IR.

Part 61: actual flight hours spent earning your CPL will vary depending on how many hours you accumulated in prior training. In other words, as long as you get to 250 and all the specific flying requirements, you can earn your CPL.

Is this correct? Let me know if I need to clear anything up. . .

Thanks again, you all are very helpful!

Different way to look at it:

For the CPL under Part 61, will I have to fly 250 hours in addition to however many hours I accumulate during my PPL and Instrument training?

You have the right idea, but get the syllabus of the school you want to go to and see if there are any lessons you can skip. There may be one or two, it never hurts to ask. The Part 141 system allows pilots with about 200 hours to apply for the commercial certificate when they complete their 141 comm pilot syllabus. It saves some time there, but is arguably not the best way to do things when you need 1500 soon anyway. But it helps the military crowd use government benefits and it organizes the curriculum for larger flight schools, so it has a purpose.

Yes that's correct. As long as you cover the required number of hours listed in the relevant FARs, cross countries done and so on, total time does not matter as long as it is 250 minimum. I recall a commercial student I had once with 2500 hours.

Most part 141 flight schools build their programs for 190 hours and you are usually ready for the ride before that so there I'd some time building. This includes time from your ppl. Part 61 the min is 250 tt the kicker is the 50 hours of cross country.
