Default Spanaflight Cheapskates

Picture going to the dentist and explaining that you'll pay after treatment is provided, but you'll pay what you want, and not the industry going rate. You also tell your dentist that you'll be asking other dentists for [free] treatment and you may not even pay if you like another dentist's treatment better. Further, even if you like the treatment, your wife may not like it in which case you won't pay.

Ridiculous I know, but that's what Spanaflight in Puyallup, WA is asking graphic designers to do. Check out the Seattle Craigslist ad:

Logo for Flight School

Currently we are looking at modernizing our company and flight training facility. To do this we are reaching out to the local community and schools looking for more involvement.

Right now we are looking for a new logo. Or current logo is not specifically designed for our flight school. We are looking for a unique image that says who we are. We offer flight training, pilot supplies, maintenance and aircraft rental. Recently we have updated our website and gotten into Facebook in an effort to reach a wider audience.
We would like to offer a scenic flight to the person who designs a new logo for our company. In order to get as many people involved as possible it will be possible to upload the logo on Facebook and have people "like" the image. The creator of the logo with the most "likes" will get a scenic flight for up to three people.

If for some reason management chooses a different logo for the company the creator of that logo will receive an intro flight for one person.

The only requirements for the logo are that they be original and turned over to the school for exclusive use. You can't use a trademarked image.

If you have any questions about the contest feel free to contact me.
Thank you.

Logo for Flight School

You can see the top notch quality that this technique is attracting here:

What's puzzling is their web site that mentions how professional they are? Unless of course you're a graphic designer.

Our team of employees offers unsurpassed quality and experience. As you will experience, a professional and conscientious approach to aviation are key attributes valued at SpanaFlight.
SpanaFlight - Pierce County Airport (KPLU)

It's obvious that Graphic Designers are held in contempt at SpanaFlight and expected to work for free. But if cash is so tight, how are the CFI's treated ? If cash is so tight, what's the chance of the minimum required maintenance on the aging fleet (and where is the honesty they talk about here?)

As a graphic designer it's easy to ignore this pathetic offer, as a private pilot I cringe at the lack of integrity in accepting the cost of doing business. I won't be flying there or doing free work for them, but I invite everyone to scribble a logo on the back of a bar napkin and post it to their facebook page, that's what their willing to pay for (or not).
