"Become a pilot only if you love to fly, not for a big salary"
That is true, but don't accept poverty wages either because you love to fly. Don't become a pilot thinking that you will be making 200k a year with 3 weeks paid vacation, but don't be so desperate to fly by accepting $18,000 a year to fly a jet.

That's more than I make at the moment lol.
And my statement of not caring how much I made was just in refernece to my willingness to take jobs flying small planes in developing countries, and not caring how much they pay me as long as its a living wage, to build hours. Seeing as no airline would even look at me straight out of flight school.

You're new - you didn't know it - but one of the things you NEVER say on this site is that you don't care about pay.
If you don't - just fly as a hobby.
If you want to be a professional - then you should care.
Live and learn.

Ludford, stop drinking all the kool-aid that justifies low pilot pay. You sound desperate and uneducated.
Have a sense of self-worth man. The whole idea that you need to "pay your dues" and work for peanuts is complete and utter BS. There is NO other industry that demands so much time and money invested for such little in return.
Starting salaries are in the TEENS! At least when you leave law school or med school and you are up to your neck in debt, you make a decent enough living (assuming you land a job) to square yourself away while you pay back your loans (over the course of a several years). NOT aviation.
You will earn less than garbage collectors and toll booth workers.
It's easy to read that last sentence and say "wow," but trust me, you have NO idea what it's like until you are living the junior pilot lifestyle, busting your butt and flying a ton, working hard, and then your paycheck comes and it's already spent! I'm dating a stripper who makes more in one night than I do in 2 MONTHS
If all that dissuades you from becoming a pilot, then good, you weren't madly in love with aviation enough to put up with these things anyways and you would have ended up hating your life!
If aviation is for you, be careful because she is one harsh b*tch! One busted medical, checkride, or bad visit to the CP's office and your whole career is over and you're back to square one. It's a huge gamble and only you can decide if it's worth it.
Reasons to become a pilot:
1) You love flying
Reasons NOT to become a pilot:
1) Make a lot of money
2) Get a lot of time off (maybe at the majors)
3) Be respected
4) Cool uniform
5) 1st class meals are so tasty!
etc. etc.
So, you can become a pilot, just be sure you date a rich stripper is what I'm saying
Disclaimer: I love flying/aviation/etc. and I don't want to come across as overly negative, just 100% realistic. Being a pilot is a great, fun job, but a VERY tough career.
If my post sounds too harsh, it's because I'm having a brutal month on reserve!!! lol

Just have a bit of self-respect when you meet with a prospective employer and you'll be OK, and, I personally think that the worst days are behind us and things should hopefully start improving soon in the industry....but, that's just positive thinking. Fingers crossed. Good luck.
