What do you guys think about this school for CFI Training? I am a comm multi pilot and I am looking for a school to go to to get my CFI. I am looking for real training. I am not one of those folks wanting to be a cfi to check the block. I want serious training. I am also looking for a school with a structured classroom type environment. I am not into the one on one with your Instructor thing. I read and talked to people about AF. But of course they are going to try and sell me. Its their job. SO I wanted to hear from others about this school. Thanks

They have a CFI academy which is 30 days, you get your CFI and CFII. For the price this is a pretty good deal ($3995 I think). I know an instructor who went this route and said the training was pretty good. He said it was a good deal for the price. Its full time 30 straight days and a lot of work. The CFI academy program is taught in a classroom structured type of environment like you stated.


As for serious and real training I cant speak for the CFI program as I have not done that. I can speak from my experiences with American Flyers. Although you can argue their prices are high the training you get is pretty solid. My instrument training with them went very well and I even picked up a lot of actual time. The quality of instruction there is pretty good from what I have seen. A lot of students finish close to minimums, I was .3 above. They dont d!ck you over like some other flight schools i've been to. The instructors are also paid fixed salary not hourly, i've flown at places where its hourly and some of those instructors love to stretch your time out.

Their CFI academy is a good deal, but do your research as to location...some branches get a lot of checkrides done by feds, and of course they usually fail. A branch that uses DPEs would be better. Also you can probably get a job at one of their branches if you do their CFI program. The academy is also their CFI "job interview"...you have to be on your game for the whole 60 days, and you will be competing with your classmates. Note: They only do MEI in FL, so you will need to figure out a plan B to get your twin time.

All of their other training is nothing special, but it is way over-priced. They mostly steal from doctors and lawyers, but they will cheerfully rip off the occasional career student who wanders in.

it's 30 days. I have to disagree with you though, u know what you are getting into when u walk in here. They dont play games with you either. I've flown at an FBO where they RIP U OFF. The price is high here but generally everyone who has flown here is happy with the instruction they are getting. I cant say the same for the other places i have been to.

I have years of experience with those guys, customer and cfi. Caveat Emptor...

Getting your CFI/CFII in less than 60 days would be a monumental challenge, it can be done theoretically, but don't plan on it. It also depends on the schedule of the FSDO...THEIR schedule, not yours or AF's. The academic course is 30 days, but then you still have to get proficient, get signed off, get scheduled, and pass two checkrides...

Flyers is a good school, I went to their CFI academy and then I was brought on as an instructor. They are a little pricy though. I’m not currently instructing with them, the drive was killer (1.3 hours each way). The academy is 30 days straight with no days off, talk about burn our, but if you have good classmates such as I did, it will make your experience very enjoyable. Also very helpful, I got to teach AF students for free to them, it was good experience for me and the students who got to come in and get free ground. That was one of the most helpfull things i did, it really releaved the stress when i had real students paying top doller for my instruction. After the 30 days training I still needed more time in the airplane and ground school as most people do, from start to CFII it took me about 90days that includes multiple cancels by the FDSO due to wx.
