Problems for RAA

Well guys, straight from a student at Regional Airline Academy. Looks like they are slowly closing the doors on this one. I'm home for Christmas right now and got a phone call from a friend (instructor at DCA) and tells me that they have layed off most of the instructors at RAA. When I get back on the 30th I have to finish my FAA for Multi. After that, I'm out. For the people in Florida, anybody know of a good flight school to go to? Maybe Avion or Epic?
Need some help guys, thanks.

No love lost there. That place has the worst marketing BS and is the place that came up with the bright idea of giving RJ type ratings to 300 hour newbies.

Sorry about your situation, but not sorry for RAA at all.

You'll be fine in the long run though. Dust off and move on...

yea its not gonna look good on my resume though. I did my PVT and INST part 61 back in TN then moved to Florida to go to DCA for my CSE, then I was gonna do my CFI, CFII, and MEI at RAA then go teach somewhere. They'll look at it like I'm inconsistent with my choices, but I left DCA because of financial issues and RAA because of obvious issues.

ConnectionPilot,

An airline isn't going to care that you did your training at a couple different places. In fact, I wouldn't even list it on your resume. Find a good school to finish up at, and be done.

Epic in EVB is ok, ATP is good too in DAB and JAX prefer ATP over Epic though, ATP is good if you want to get your stuff fast and proficient, Epic is the typical FBO.

There is only one place you want to consider...Call ATPs and move on with your career...Remember - with ATP you'll get the ratings you paid for and you'll get them in time / on budget and without any BS.

this is what happens when the big wigs at the school see you as a dollar sign and not as a customer.....

Why is RAA Closing?

I'll second what Pilotpip said...Airlines can care less where you got your ratings. Many of these airlines are hiring guys with 200 hours...Do you really think they'll care where you did your ratings? I think not.

Pilotpip 01-01-2007 08:28 AM

PS: My resume doesn't state every flight school I've flown at. By the time you get your relevent aircraft times, education, and work experience you'll find yourself rating things in levels of importance to figure out how to keep things on one page.

Pinnacle, TSA, and ASA I know for sure. These airlines are hiring guys from the Capt. Program at Embry-Riddle. I work with some of the Capt guys and they seem to know what they are doing and seem to be good pilots. The only downside to programs like Capt is the lack of real world pilot in command time. I don’t care what anyone says, real world experience kicks the a$$ out of having a type rating at 200-250 hours.

Look into Falcon Flight at Sanford, they've got nice planes, lots of instructors, and their rates are better than epic. Falcon can get you finished with all your ratings in a hurry if you wanna finish up.

Thumbs882 01-02-2007 03:49 PM

Falcon is a bit scary. I've rented from there pleanty of times. Make sure you do a good preflight and check all their inspections. I've found issues there and when I brought them up (ie things placarded that are required by the type cert.) they really looked down on me.

LAfrequentflyer 01-02-2007 05:19 PM

ATP can get you done and you won't have to worry about mx or being looked down upon for having integrity.

had a feeling that was coming. ^^^^

twice in 1 thread. LAFF, are you sure you don't work for ATP???
They should really pay you for the advertising you do.

Vader 01-02-2007 09:08 PM

I love ATPs 14 day CFI,II,MEI course...:D

Puppyz 01-02-2007 09:24 PM

Vader, did you go thru that course?? I'm curious as to if u liked it or not, was considering it but i'm not too sure since its 14 days ..im havin doubts..thats a lot in 14 days u know.

Vader 01-03-2007 08:17 AM

Nope, but friend of mine did. He went to FlightSafety for CFI ground and did all the flying at ATP, it worked out pretty well for him. IMO It takes a lot more time to fully comprehend the material and pass it on to your students.

ConnectionPilot 01-03-2007 05:04 PM

i heard today that some regionals are hiring with 250tt and a multi rating, how much of this is true and does pinnacle or express jet do this

MSRVPILOT 07-30-2007 07:21 AM

RAA sucks balls they were just recently bought out about two weeks ago and is now under new owners but the same bull **** still applies. They have decreased their aircraft fleet ! They will promise you **** and it will never happen. I hope the whole school goes completely under.
