I think outside the US they will be around for years to come and its good to know how to fly old school, the new stuff is cool but stuff happens.

There are also places where they are a necessity as a high power (2,000W) NDB can be received over a distance of hundreds of miles, there are still charted airways over the Pacific which utilize NDBs scattered across those islands. I think there are also routes via Greenland which use them for those unable to utilize tracks.

I know of at least one instance of dual GPS failure 400 NM from land going to an tiny island, having the NBD was a good thing.

I agree putting all your faith in GPS or a glass cockpit is a bad idea.I don't see steam gauges totally disappearing either as they are reliable, glass can fail as the more computers you have the greater chance of failure. There are many cases where pilots get lazy and let computers do all the work, and when they actually have to think, they forgot the basic skills.

You imply that steam gauges are more reliable than glass "computers". What facts are you using to form this conclusion?
