Palo Alto College Professional Pilot A.A.S?
 

Anybody have any experience with the Palo Alto College Professional Pilot program in San Antonio, Texas? I believe its the only collegiate aviation program in San Antonio that accepts the GI Bill so I would like to give it a shot. Any comments?

Not in San Antonio, so this may not work if you are living with parents or have a job in San Antonio, but Tarrant County College (TCC) also has a professional piloting program based out of Alliance Airport north of Fort Worth. I have attached a brochure.

Are you planning to so somewhere else afterward to get a 4 year degree?

I've done some research into TCC pro pilot program before and they look alright to me but unfortunately I'm limited to San Antonio at the time because I work at an Air Force reserve unit over there. No degree necessary as I already have a 4 year degree. Thanks though.

I did my private pilot training thru Palo Alto YEARS ago, (1993-1994ish?). Back then the program had it's own dedicated classroom, Frasca 141 sim, Offices for staff, small private library-study room (quiet place), and book closet. Two Professors teaching, one was part time, and we had a secretary. Flying was contracted by (now defunct and rest in peace) Wright Flyers in C-150/152's. Was a VERY professional program then.

Fast forward about 8-10 years. Went to visit and inquire about some flying and found out most of that was taken over by other school (programs with more $) and nearly the whole program was a one man band working out of the former metioned closet.

That being said, with respect to the college, I do not not know more than that, nor who is running the program. I believe the flying now is done at Stinson by SkySafety, and they look to be a fairly busy school.

I think you are correct in that the GI Bill will only cover a College Accredited Aviation (Flight) program and as far as I know, Palo Alto is currently the only one.

Nope, I never worked at Hondo.

Yeah, I'm aware that them and several other two year colleges in Texas also feed into the Aviation Science program at Texas A&M University-Central Texas, where you can finish and get your bachelors. It's a great program because while you're working on your junior and senior level coursework, you can instruct, since you'll have your flying done by the first two years. TAMUCT, also works great with the military, considering it's right by Ft. Hood in Killeen.
