Default Ipad Foreflight buying question

I have a brand new Ipad 2 (64gb 3gb version) sitting in storage for the past few years. I was waiting to use it for my flight training as a CFI mainly for Foreflight, however I was medically grounded for 2 years.

Now that Im going to be back into training, I was wondering if I should keep my Ipad 2 or sell it and get a new Ipad Air 2?

Is it worth it to just keep my Ipad 2 since its practically brand new?

Im worried since its so old that it will not be able to work later on when there are upgrade changes to foreflight. Foreflight recommends a minimum requirement of an Ipad 2 but they strongly recommend an Ipad Air 2, but I would have to dish out another $200-300 for the Ipad Air 2. Do you think the Ipad 2 will last me the next 2-3 years in flight training/ instructing, or should I just go ahead and sell it and spend more money for a future proof ipad air 2?

I had the iPad 2 and it seemed to work, it was tight with the yoke though. I used it as my kneeboard. I swapped to the latest iPad mini, not the air and it works great. I also use foreflight while cfi'ing. Check out the appstrap if your looking for a good kneeboard setup. Low profile for sure

You should fine. I know plenty of broke CFIs who use an iPad Gen1 in the flight training world and get by just fine. Assuming you meant it's a 3G cellular data version, you'll be ahead of a lot of them too. 64GB will allow you to fit all the foreflight charts you could ever need and then still maybe fit a Jepp Chart program on there too, or a whole ton of other useful data.

The only thing that I like about the newer ipads that I really want is the finger print unlock feature. Would be helpful while trying to unlock your ipad in flight (instead of having to key in the 4 digit pass code).

I use a mini with LTE data and it's great, but sometimes I do wish it was a little bigger.

I'm more concerned about hardware and compatability requirements. Since fore flight and aviation app developers are working on the latest iOS . Those gen 1 guys can no longer use fore flights newest features. I have a feeling hardware requirements a year from now will hinder the iPad 2 ability to even work.

It'll work, but it will be sluggish as hell. I formerly had an iPad 2, and now my current older model iPad Mini has the same hardware as the iPad 2, and it's a challenge running the latest version of iOS, especially when I use it back to back with my iPhone 6.

Posting from an ipad2 right now, and it's my foreflight tablet as well. I have no issues running that app, or any others. I have noticed it running slower, but my memory is almost tapped out with pic's of my kids on top of all my charts.
