Question Searching for Philadelphia Area Flight School

Hortman aviation at PNE is now closed and I'm looking for recommendations. I want to be within 30 mins of South Phila and easy to commute during the week.. I'm not familiar with the FBOs in South Jersey but some look promising. They would need to do advanced training as well (commercial, CFI, Multi would be nice but could be done somewhere else, etc.). Any ideas out there?

Thanks

You could look at ATP Flight School at Trenton Mercer Airport

Any idea why Hortman shut down ?

Yeah.. Sadly Herb Hortman (owner) passed away last month.. Wife decided to sell the liability. Anyway I just heard Infinity Flight (TTN) might station a few planes at PNE to fill the geographical gap.. Good move as there aren't any career oriented FBOs in the Philly area..

Herb was my uncle and I've flown and worked there my whole life. So sad it closed. It appears the CFIs have gone to Trenton and Doylestown. I'd recommend Trenton, it's just a nicer bigger airport to train at than the tiny Doylestown strip. Pm me if you need any help.

@Paok @Dan64456

Has Hortman Aviation been sold to someone ? Did another flight school set up their ops at PNE ?

Nope, it's gone.. Last I heard they were selling the assets and that's it. Best off finding a mom and pop or even better yet a flying club to continue your training.. When you get up to Commercial/CFI and are ready for the Multi add on's.. Infinity Flight Group at TTN has one. I don't know of any other places around here with a twin.

Infinity is owned by a former Hortman Aviation instructor. I would
check it out. My son will probably fly over there when the time is right.

I found an awesome flying situation in the South Jersey area with a great group of guys, but you need to already have your Private.. It's WAY cheaper than any flight school in the area and they can get you all of the single engine ratings beyond Private. PM me for more info if interested. It's like 30 % cheaper rates, also plenty of people to fly with (Think Safety Pilot) to cut the costs significantly beyond that. Wish I had known about this option years ago..
