Longest CFI orals

Just wondering how long were some of you guys' orals on the CFI checkride?

6 Hours...he was an ex-FBI agent. Didn't ask me one standard question that you'd expect on a CFI oral. Hard as hell...but passed

8 hours, then went flying for 2, I guess he wanted to make sure I got my money's worth.

Started at 6am, finished the oral at 2pm, flew at 2:30, finished debrief at 6pm. Passed, but one helluva day.

Oral was 1.5 including all paperwork, flight was .9. Probably the most stressful few hours of my life. We did everything the PTS called for, the guy was really hurrying me through the entire thing. He was rolling his eyes whenever I did clearing turns and a flow check. During the flight he would say things like "when you finish this turn (turns around a point), go ahead and start a turn around that house down there for 8s on pylons." There was no time to think through anything.

Did he show up in a Hawaiian shirt? That guy was a trip. I did the wam bam thankya mam CFI course at ATP a couple of years ago. All the ATP kids were telling me how screwed I was once we all found out he would be my examiner.

Turned out he was cool as hell. I think I got some serious points for not being from a Florida flight school and for being a high time pilot. All in all my initial was a great experience. The oral was a few hours, and he expects you to know what you are talking about...as you SHOULD by that point. The flight was cake, I swear he flew more than I did.

Mine was about 7 hours. It was very long but not terribly hard. I was pretty well prepared and seemed she was more trying to wear me down than stump me. From preflight to tiedown started at 0530 and ended at about 2000, it was a long day!

I feel bad for you guys my oral was short. Got there at 815 for a 830 start he was busy did not get to me till about 915 (some sort of problem for a 135 ride he did the day before someone wasnt happy) so i was thinking oh no this guys a hard ass. Well after a few phone calls after getting me to his office finally started the paperwork about 1000 well got into my logbook and looked up my instructor on their computer and noticed there was a problem seems like their computer said she had only been instructing for a 22 months not the 24 required so a few phone calls to my school finally she returned the call and everything was ok she had been instructing for about 5 years. So now its about 11am and we start talking and he goes off on a tangent about spacial disoreientation for about 45 min so around 1245 he says hes tired and hungry so its lunch time but no time to do anymore after lunch cause he has another 135 ride to do at simuflite so the oral is over and we rescheduled the flight. So a 1.7 man i sure do feel for you guys that got the 6 hour orals. Im glad mine was short but was a little upset I did not get to show my knowledge off that I had been studying the last 3 months for.

The exam isn't where you "show off" your knowledge. Save that for your students and the times that they're trying to kill you.
