Suggest a School
Here's my situation:
34
Not married, no kids
Plenty of money for even most expensive schools
Personal license, around 70 hours time
BA in economics from a top 50, 3.7
MA in econ, 3.8
Extremely motivated
A little impatient
I took a job as an insurance adjuster right out of school to avoid moving back in with my folks, and unfortunately this has left me a bit pigeonholed. It pays extremely well when there's work, but it has never been a career. I'd really rather spend my days flying.
In Boston at moment, however only thing keeping me here is a 1099 gig that's paying anywhere between 3k and 10k per month depending on weather, and where average tenure is about 6 months - I'm at 8.
Looking around, Horizions is only local program and has negative reviews. Fine quitting my gig, relocating, and dropping 60k if that's what it takes, but I do want to do it in a sensible, value-conscious manner.

Im going through Eastern Michigan University... Finishing my Bachelors, Flight training, instructing and reduced 1000 hour mins. I start in June if everything goes right. Finishing stuff and going through the application process over the next couple weeks..
They have had recruiters plucking students left and right for jobs. I actually have a guy on the inside of one said stories I was told. I asked and they verified that it was true what the school told me. So at-least I proved they weren't blowing smoke.
I will be around $60-70k maybe less with grants and stuff I have applied for.
Access to a hanger full of brand new shiny C172 G1000's, couple Rg's and a twin.
If it wasn't for the funds available, I would have went to a smaller operation that would cost much less.
I talked to ATP and almost a month later still waiting on their information packet to come in the mail...
They have had recruiters plucking students left and right for jobs. I actually have a guy on the inside of one said stories I was told. I asked and they verified that it was true what the school told me. So at-least I proved they weren't blowing smoke.

Currently looking at Prairie Air in Kansas or GPA Piloting out of Tampa. Both are less than 40k for what ATP offers for 70k, both have good timelines.

Anyone have any input? I do have the money, however I'm not thinking that the ATP name and networking are worth double the cost.
Level 1 medical tomorrow - not going to drop 70k and 6 months earnings and then have FAA be all "Well you had an ear infection in 2007 so sorry pal"

Airline Service: The nearest airport served by commercial airlines is Wichita Mid Continent (IATA identifier ICT). It is 25 highway miles from our facilities and is served by most major US air carriers (American, Delta, Northwest, United). Recently the discount carriers AirTran and Frontier also started service to Wichita.
Thats from the prairie air... Seems a little dated, rental prices look to follow early 2000's. If that is correct, that is a great deal!

Hi, first post. I was looking at Prairie for a ppl and yes their site is outdated. Shoot them an email and they will send you a few files containing all the info and prices. Asked them last year and it was around $6,000 for a ppl and around 30k for there "ab initio" (0 to commercial). Not bad! ... I think? Anyways I also was looking at Long Beach Flying Club out here where Im at. Part 141 too. Little cheaper but doesnt include the 100,75,or 50 hrs of multi engine like PAS does. Of course I wonder if the prices are underestimating the hours one actually needs to finish the ratings.

Failed my medical. Minor hearing loss apparently isn't so minor.
I had talked with GPA out of Tampa and they are 30k through commercial, not including multi, 2k refunds towards multi if you pass all tests and checkrides.
