All VA approved flight schools?
Just curious if anyone has a list of all the VA approved flight schools?
I know AriBen & Delta connection academy are, however both of them don't seem to have the reputation of ATP. It would also be great if any of these schools are located in KY,MD, or DE. thanks for the help. |
Call your local FBO and ask.

Here's what I remember...
To be VA approved, a school has to be a 141 operation. The school then goes through a process with the state to become approved through the state's VA education benefit program. I ended up with a series of google searches that helped me locate all 141 schools in my state, then I found the approving agency and that helped me figure out which of the 141 schools were approved. Good luck |
Most part 141 programs will allow VA funding. Be wary of schools that charge more than listed for usage of the bennefit.

Something to consider...the best flight training programs are usually not 141 because the extra regulations make those programs inflexible. Also, as was mentioned, since almost nobody has any use for 141 programs EXCEPT for MGIB students, the prices of those programs are often artificially high since they know you can pay more...a ripoff basically. I would suggest carefully researching the requirements to complete your training under part 91 (without VA benies) and part 141 (with VA bennies)...91 may be only slightly higher, in which case you could save the MGIB for college (yes, you will need a 4 year degree to thrive in the airline business). |
thanks for the help guys. I had a friend who went to ATP and has nothing but great things to say. He got hired by Colgan and really loves his job.
What intrigued me about Ari was the fact it would be a total of 26K for the 3month course. Because the GI was going to pick up 60%... I plan on flying down next month to check both of them out. |

A school must be FAR Part 141 approved and willing to process VA paperwork (most flight training is done under FAR part 91).

I would say move to Myrtle Beach. Enroll in Coastal Carolina to get your GIBILL going. Join the Myrtle Beach Flying club. ( some of the cheapest rentals in the country.) Live off of Financial Aid, use your GIBILL to fly, and live the great life for the next 4 years. Getting $1225 a month for two years = $29,400 for flying.
That would be your pvt inst comm cfi cfii mei mecomm and you wouldn't have to pay a penny. Plus you would have another good year of gibill left. Or you could pay 3 times as much for rentals all up front and then get reimbursed for 60% of what the VA says qualifies. |
Hortman Aviation Philadelphia PA 30min from DE, VA approved. Good school Good instructors 40 airplanes good rates 75.00 to 85bucks for 172 plus they have a part 135 operation which means you could have the opportunity to sit right seat in a citation V.
