Starting Flight School in Orange County, CA
Hi, We are aviation enthusiasts and thinking about starting a flight school in Orange County, California. We are not pilots and we need professional advice, assistance and guidance to achieve the goal. We are also looking for experienced manager, instructors to grow with the company. Thanks!

Plenty of successful flight schools are run by non-pilot staff. It is possible, but a good place to start will be deciding if there is a viable business:
- Who are your customers?
- Will you purchase a Part 141 certificate?
- Choice of aircraft? (depends largely on customer base)
- Is there a viable training airport?

Professional advice costs money, and you will need buckets of it. However, here's some free advice. 1) You can get the buckets cheap at Home Depot. 2) Only those with considerable experience in aviation should pursue something like this. On the other hand most of those same people know not too...

You are going to have a fun time getting started. Maybe look into buying out an existing business there?? You are going to have fun finding a place to rent, a place to park your planes, and CFIs since they're in high demand out there(this might be your weakest spot). You also have to build a customer base somehow while competing with the existing schools there.
Goodluck if you decide to pursue this, it's a fun and rewarding experience. I would definitely consider getting someone very knowledgeable about starting a flight school since it's a pretty big initial investment with very little or no profit until you are an established business.
