FAA written test ground schools?
 

Just curious if anyone has been to one of these weekend ground school classes to prepare for a written test.
I am getting ready to take my FII and alot of the stuff on it I have forgotten or not used in awhile( I have been flying for pleasure the last 12 years and just decided to do my CFI). So I was thinking one of the weekend classes might be beneficial. I am looking at American Flyers. I will have to do the Instrument class and not the FII one because they do not have another until next month. It is 3 days instead of 2, but I guess it will be just as good, if not better.
Just seeing if anyone has any experience with these or heard anything.

The AF class will work, and you will learn a couple things, but for the CFII oral you will need more then just "pass the written" knowledge (which is what AF is all about).

You could also do a CBT class at ATP (one day) to knock out the written, then get a book or CD course to actually learn the stuff.

I did the CBT course at ATP when I took my ATP written. No previous studying within the previous 3 months. Did about 5 hours of "studying" and then took the test.

Ended up with a 94%. IMHO, worth the money if you don't have the time to prep on your own- however it's nothing but rote memorization and won't help you pass your checkride or an oral...

ATP does a great job
 

I took a FE written a few years ago at one of the ATP weekend courses and it was awesome. I scored a 93% on the test. The staff was young and energetic and willing to help in any way that they could.

Thanks for the replies. I know I still have alot of studying to do for the oral. My instructor wants me to go ahead and get the writtens out of the way. I already did the FOI and FIA.
We are not starting our ground school until next week, so I was trying to get the FII done before that.
So I am going to be doing alot of ground school and studying for the oral.

hey that's pretty cool, i'm doing the exact same thing. I took the FOI last week and the FIA today. Now i'm studying for the FII. I use the gleim books to pass the written exams. After the FII I have the same plan as you, study all the ground material for the oral. Goodluck to you.

CBT = Computer based training. All I found on their website was courses for the ATP and FEX writtens:

You might call and see if the location nearest you does other written exam prep.

I went to these guys for my PP/IFR/Comm. It's a weekend thing and then you set up a test for sun night or the next day if you want. I passed every one no prob. I would highly recommend them if you just want to get the written out of the way. Like others have said, it will take more self study to be prepared for the oral.

That's a good plan, that way you can focus on REAL knowledge, and forget about the Gliem "knowledge". In this case I'd say go to ATP...you'll be in and out in a few hours. Don't waste three days at flyers.
