Default American pilots going overseas

I have often thought about converting my Commercial ASEL license to be able to go over to Europe/Asia and see what opportunities are there. From what I see, it is a pretty long and difficult process. Am I correct here? I read somewhere you have to take 14(!) tests on top of other practical exams to convert.

Thoughts?

Yeah, a long list of exams before the practical exam—law, theory, met, navigation and others. Then, an EASA medical and practical in the plane. But, before all that you’ll need the “right to work” in the country and meet any country-specific requirements. Language proficiency in the local language being typical in many countries. Ex-pats are concentrated in the ME, China and and few third world countries for a reason—no locals available and they’re working a fix.

Conversion to Canada is easy, but you need the right to work. But, their pilot shortage is getting worse, even though they have no age limit, so it may be easier to fly there in the future.

Converting to European is very hard.

If you go fly elsewhere, they will hire you and take care of the conversion process. If you are low time/experience, then probably Alaska and Africa are your best bets. Tanzania was hiring a LOT of foreign pilots, including US. Dar es Salaam is the capital and hub airport.
