Drone pilot license?

I have Commercial SE and ME with Instruments....I did the online exam to get a drone pilot license, but now it is saying I need a CFI sign off?

Anyone know anything about this?

If you are seeking a Remote Pilot Certificate with Small UAS rating, you will need to fill out FAA Form 8710 (paper) or Electronically on IACRA and get with a CFI, DPE or FSDO ASI to process the application for the certificate. Since you have passed the training course, you will also need to present the certificate of course completion and evidence of a current 61.56 Flight Review within the past 24 months. Itis merely a paperwork exercise.

Does the CFI need to have a special cert or endorsement to be able to do this? I asked a few CFIs about this and they looked at me crosseyed and shrugged.

Recommendation- If you want this done correctly (and free of charge) make an Appt at your nearest FSDO. A CFI will charge you for their time to process the paperwork. Apply via IACRA. Faster and paperless.

Just call up anybody you know who is a cfi. No special cert is required. Takes 5 minutes.

Many CFI's have not received ANY training on how to process applications for Remote Pilot Certificates and do not know how to correctly process the 8710 form. There is a risk of AFS-760 returning incomplete or incorrect apps. This is what the OP was eluding to.

A buddy in my squadron signed me off. Took maybe 5 minutes. He had never signed anyone off on anything before. It's not hard. And if some CFI wants to charge you some crazy fee, don't pay it.

You don't need to have a remote pilot cert to sign someone off.

It is NOT difficult.

Agreed. That's a ridiculous statement. It's not rocket surgery.
