Avianca El Salvador

Does anybody know any hiring information about Avianca El Salvador? Hour minimums , quality of life, salary? I heard they don't hire any foreign pilots, but my parents are salvadoran born. I have been trying to find recent information about them online, but it has been a bit difficult to find.

Avianca Pilots are on strike now and managemnt is looking to hire outside contractors to fly the routes.. or so I heard. I don't know too much about Avianca El Salvador, (formally Taca I guess?). If it's Avianca, I think the same minimums apply.. 250tt IR, and CMEL.. asuming you are Colombian or native from El Salvador. Your best bet is to check out pprune.com forums or Aviacol forums. Pay is low, around 2K USD per month.. upgrade can take 10+ years or whenever they feel like it. Also I think you have to pay to get your FAA certificates validated in the country or something along those lines. Hope that helps, let me know what you find.

So El Piloto...

If I understand you, Avianca (El Salvador) does not hire anyone who is not a citizen of El Salvador, correct? What if I am a Salvadorian citizen (born), but also a US citizen? Last I check El Salvador does recognize dual citizenship.

If your answer is correct... "If it's Avianca, I think the same minimums apply.. 250tt IR, and CMEL..." then...

-A dual citizenship, TT250, IR, CMEL, etc. means Avianca "will hire you" as an FO for either the E190 or even a A320? or something for the right seat. Is this correct?

Good training for your next job in Lagos.

Huh? You lost me? The idea to work for a foreign flag is to built hours on the right seat and eventually the left seat. If Avianca gives someone the opportunity to fly the right seat of a A319 with 500TT that 's less time to get to a legacy carrier in the US. Not to mention you are an FO with low time and potentially have turbine time by the time you take the ATP, not an option in the US.

But then again, I could be wrong if others want to chime in please do.

Living in San Salvador may be hazardous to your health.

Best place to be right now is in the US, trust me on this. If you want to go back home just do it on your time off. The pay in Central and South America has always been crap compared to the US. If you can get on with a regional with a decent QOL like Envoy, Expressjet, or SKYW that has bases in the southern half of the US, you can always move down there and commute up to TX, FL, or wherever. PIC in an Airbus isn't going to do much vs. PIC in a 170. My company flies wide bodies and our CA's don't seem to be getting hired any faster than RJ CA's (I mean the ones that aren't flowing either).

I also recommend staying far away from any carrier that's on strike, even a foreign one. In the modern age of the internet it's a small world and you don't want that drama following you.

Best of luck.

So can all the heavy maintenance being done there but that never seems to bother anyone.

Wait...Avianca El Salvador? Isn't Avianca a Columbian company? How is Avianca different from Avianca El Salvador, Avianca Peru, Avianca Costa Rica, Avianca Ecuador, and the other Avianca companies based in different countries. How is it that a Brazilian company called Synergy Group can have 11 different airlines, most of which hold US DOT authorization, and only one of which is based in Brazil, and not incur the 'Flag of Convenience' charge from ALPA?

There’s an obscure provision contained in their rules and provisions.... “LXIX (i) Timely and Appropriate use of Double Standards”;)
