Cathay question re: Europe basing
I've searched extensively and haven't found anything on this although my search abilities might be limited.
Does anyone have any insight into the Cathay operation in Europe? Freighter only? Anyone getting hired to go over there as opposed to Hong kong? Does one need a European ATPL or can you manage it with an FAA ATP?
Also any insight into what the life is like. What kind of schedules, pay etc. I've read alot about the culture being bad. Still the case?
The wife is German and we're moving. I'm a quite senior regional Captain/SIM instructor in the USA considering possible options to fly in Europe. Great gig currently in the US and I can commute to work our SIM for 10 days in a row once per month so it would have to be a good deal to leave what I've got.

If Germany is what you really want push hard for FedEx, they still hire into their CGN base. CargoLux is hiring, but they require EASA and a 747 type and time.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
EASA Part FCL ATPL or CPL/IR with ATPL theory (Frozen ATPL)
EASA Part Med Class 1 Medical
Minimum 2000 hours total flying time including :
A minimum of 1500 hours on multi-pilot turbo-jet aeroplane certificated to the standards of CS-25/FAR-25 or equivalent
Or
A minimum of 1500 hours on a multi-pilot turbo-prop aeroplane having a maximum certificated take-off mass of not less than 10000 kg or a certificated passenger seating configuration of more than 19 passengers
Preference will be given to candidates type-rated on B747-400, B777 or B787

You can always go through a contractor, who wants to earn something as well, or directly via Cargolux. In that process you even get the typerating if you don't have it.
Couple of friends just got hired by them over the winter, no typerating needed at all. The company of course did provide the rating.
