Do you continue to get pay raises after you complete a 5 year contract?

Hi, I have a call with Air Japan at the end of this month. What should I expect? Is this a screening call then will be asked to come to Japan for an interview if successful? Thank you in advance for the help

Read the thread that jrmyl posted. You need to understand what you are to expect. In general, contract work is a good option for when the market is bad at home. But in unprecedented hiring as it is happening lately here in the US, the expat contract market is not something you should be looking at. Not a bad review of this particular job mind you, I am grateful for the experience, but if you are young and are simply looking for a way to supplement your CV to keep applying at the mayors, it will be better for you to apply to one of the ACMI's or any other small carrier to gain the experience. The cultural differences of expat work takes a LOT of effort, that being Japan, The ME or China.

And if you are on the older side of things then I most definitely recommend that you don't go into the expat market, specially if you haven't done it before. Expat contract work requires a very healthy amount of patience and adaptation to things that make absolutely no sense whatsoever. And us older folks don't have a lot of patience left.

Just a thought.

Good luck on your decision

Thanks for the information...I am not from the US and this commute contract should be good for me...what I do want to know is if the contract has been updated? I have read the posts here but it is outdated now since it has been many years....what are their rules for spouse coming? Does the spouse only come for training once/twice and then they can't go again since we will stay in hotels or do they allow apartments? do they apply for visas..thank you again

Try asking those questions to the contract company. Also post those questions on Pprune. You might get one of the handful of pilots that took the new contract to answer.

The new contract is substandard in comparison to the one we had. So the information you can find here is outdated and does not apply.

Wish you luck.
