Default Eva Air

Hi, I know that some other websites have information on working at Eva Air, but basically all they say is that working in Asia in general is terrible. I’m just wondering what is the pay like at Eva Air and about how many trips a month do you generally work for the 777-300er? Also what is training like at Eva Air? Lastly, are flight benefits the same as at US airlines or are they different? Please don’t just talk about how bad working at an Asian airline is because I’ve already heard that a thousand times. Also, I’ve looked at a billion websites and I still haven’t found much information on working at Eva Air so I hope someone might know some information about working at Eva Air.

Assuming you are not a native of Taiwan, foreign pilot pay can be found on the respective contracting agency's web site. The actual amounts vary slightly by agency. But it's going around the same as regional CA pay here in the USA, give or take.

Suggest pprune.org for your other questions. There are a few semi-active threads there for EVA.

I’ve been looking for more information about working for EVA too, and what’s it’s like living and working in Taiwan. My hope would be to work a schedule where I would come back to the states for days off. It’s too bad nobody has replied to your post, yet, answering your questions. I’m curious too. Was wondering if you’d share with me the other sites or pages you’ve been utilizing to gain insight to working for EVA? Whatever information you have would be really helpful if you’re willing to share.

The pay is roughly 90K per year/ FO 777

Schedule is 8 block days off. You can build them back to back, but remember then your gone be roughly 6 weeks on the road

Just reach out to the recruiting companies, they will be happy to respond. Each company has different contracts and pay varies. EVA friend of mine said *currently* APAS is the best

I'll get more info when I have some time

My Friend. here's my short Synopsis of working for Asian (Indian, Middle eastern) Airlines.

1) All your years of experience and training means nothing to them.
As far as they are concerned they will reinvent the wheel as far as
your training is concerned which can be very intimidating and
mentally demoralizing. And you will go thru MANY weeks/and month
of mental disbelief. However should you persevere. Your success will
not be on what you have done or can do. But rather what their
perception is of you.

2) Culturally Asians, (Indians, Middle easterners, as well) are some what insecure folks. And their inferiority complex is masked with a somewhat fake grin that can be misleading. Though once you have broken their stereo type your level of comfort zone is related to how well you keep a low profile. Which is. How well you follow the rules which at times defies logic. Or are quite archaic in terms of regulation. And your questions to them are not perceived as an attempt to get information that is beyond them or their scope. The slightest idea that you are a complainer, or moe experienced than them. Begins your exit from the company.

3) Coming from the western world to work in Asia,(India Middle East)
bring with it some very clear rules that you have to accept in order to make the adjustment easy for you. Being on a commuting contract does not insulate you from the "reality" that you will meet while your are on ground there. Here are a few things to remember-:
-1 you are a foreigner and you are welcomed. But you have limited
rights.
-2 You are never really accepted by the locals. On the Flight deck
as Commander you do command the respect. to a point! But you
will always have the feeling that someone is watching over you.
And anonymous reports about your personality, actions, and
performance always make it to the office.
Though there are a few locals who have been or are regularly
interacting with other foreigners, may be easly acquainted with or
socialize much easier while on the job or on company time.
-3 There are many who see themselves as having the "Right-of
Way"
whether on the road or on the sidewalk or while getting on a bus.
So be prepared for these tacit social slaps. It can be difficult at first
but eventually you will get used to it.

These are just a few things of the many "cultural sensitivities" i offer for your consideration. When considering a move to an asian company. As westerners we tend to take for granted that even thought we live in a diverse communities. And we interact positively on a daily basis with some of the very same cultures coming from Asia. The fact is that it is a totally different mind set that you have to deal with and adjust to.
So,The big issue for you is how well you can reprogram your mind. And how much you are willing to give up. And how much are you willing to accept in the name of change.

Best of Success.

I have lived in Taiwan and married into it so I go back for a month or so every year. I personally love it there and plan on retiring there. That said, I have been watching the jobs at EVA and China Airlines for more than 15 years and have talked directly with pilots at both. Other than my time at the regionals in the US when the regionals were paying about half as much as they do now, the allure of the jobs there just hasn't been enough. Too many horror stories of conflict in the cockpit (even between locals) and rather poor scheduling practices. The pay isn't good compared to China or the US, but it is quite great for Taiwan compared to vast majority of the population. You can live very, very well on FO pay as long as you don't need to try to live and eat like you do back home. Taipei real estate is expensive, but you probably don't need to own and you don't need to live in only fanciest neighborhood in the nicest apartment. The local food is amazing and amazingly cheap. The culture is fascinating. The country is awesome to explore. If you plan on going for it in Taiwan, don't try to commute. You will be brutalizing your body clock with just the work. Going back to the US or Europe for under a week with the travel time each way would brutalize yourself even more and be unfair to your family at home. Just live there and learn to love it, or work somewhere else with a better commuting schedule.

That is the only thing there I can't abide. I hate not liking anything so I try to like it every few years and it just doesn't work in my mouth. The raw stinky tofu even beat up Andrew Zimmerman's taste buds on his weird food show when he went to Taiwan. My wife and kids love it, but thankfully don't bring it home. I hope you can get your fill in Liverpool!

Do you guys know what the upgrade times are at EVA if you are rated in the 787/777 and have around 6000hrs. The salary is pretty low, but I was told 3 yrs to upgrade by a recruiter. Is this BS? Upgrade at my airline is looking non existent so need to look elsewhere unfortunately.
