They don't want to run the world RIGHT NOW would be more accurate, it likely isn't in their game plan until somewhere around 2050.
The Chinese Communist Party is working in timelines that our electoral cycles and short term whims can't comprehend. They are playing the long game... probably a 100 year plan that Mao started after gaining power.

That's so far fetched as to be implausible, they can't even invade Taiwan to say nothing of either of the cold war super-powers... who OBTW still have much of their cold war nuclear arsenals, which China does not, and never did.
And nobody in their right mind thinks a soft, slow boil, assimilation is possible, too many cultural differences.

Dominate, not run. Big difference. They want to thrive, not vanish in a flash of light.
They can plausibly strive to dominate their region so as to make it prohibitively expensive for us to intervene. They cannot invade or otherwise take over the US or Russia. Or the EU or Oz, as long as they are backed by the US.

The Chinese know that the only way they can become and remain a superpower is because of Americans and Europeans buying things from them.
Running the world is not what they want, it's never been part of their plan. The only way they could "run" the world is if they flip the system, and Europe/USA will start producing rubber dogsh*t that the Chinese will buy by the billions. Not a realistic scenario.
