What an appalling response from a group who portend to be knowledgeable. Why not refute the poster claims rather than knock his poor grammar and writing style? Only five posts? So for this his post is to be dismissed!

Sold his house before he had a contract in hand?

Had to search more than one manual for information? Shocking. First aircraft?

The poster is new, only five pprune posts to his credit, and little wonder.

Great story, some of which is familiar from those quarters, but not very credible, either.

The account reflected poorly on the author.
So by your admission, the poster is wrong and he is disparaging a good Middle East airline? A lot of details from him and only throw away responses about his credibility.

Couldn't even be bothered to write a critique that made sense. Glad to see you added to the conversation. Helps others who may be considering applying at Qatar in the future.

Rather than point by point refute the OP, the posters here couldn't be bothered to do more than knock him. A lot of very damaging accusations (many posted before by others) and no meaningful retort. I would have expected better from a forum that ostensibly is looking out for aviators and educate all to the pros and cons in the industry. These replies added nothing constructive to the discussion.

My comment, dckozak is from experience over the years. It’s been no secret to the casual observer via word of mouth to actual experience. A worker in that part of the world is a modern day indentured slave, to put it succinctly. Treatment from carriers in the region as it relates to how workers are valued vary.

Anyway dckozak I’d be interested to know, along with other members of APC may be interested with your personal experience(s) QR, or other ME carriers, or with foreign carriers.

Not everyone reading posts on APC are aware of how flight crew are treated in the ME or China. Many are not aware that most non American pilots post predominantly on pprune, they get all their information from posting/opinion on this website. The poster spent a good deal of time outlining his views/prospective on Qatar Airlines. Having someone link the post, several posters, providing no meaningful retort or counter-points to his accusations, fired off flippant opinions on the poster and the validity of his observations. IMHO, it provided not only no information, it diminished the value of the post. I would have expected something like this from a company plant leaking anonymously false information to discredit the source, not from long time posters we assume are real pilots.

Twenty years flying in and out of Dubai with a fair amount of deadhead on Emirates in Business and first class. Lots of travel on foreign and US legacy carriers, most in first class. I have no axe to grind with the service the ME carriers provide, I would agree that the US carriers provide an embarrassing product relative to many European and Asian carriers and certainly compared to Emirates, the only ME carrier I have personal experience with. My only gripe is their failure to provide decent bread sticks when they serve caviar.

Have they started using real Mother of Pearl spoons with caviar? They used to use nasty faux-MOP spoons.

I would be more concerned about them serving faux-caviar.

That has never been the case.
But for caviar, Lufthansa F is the place to be. Lufthansa used to be, pre-COVID, the largest buyer of caviar in the world.

The conditions outlined in the pprune link are spot on. 18 months ago was a different story.

Like many things, the genesis of this got blown way out of proportion.

There were a series of posts about specific people in management, along with a young lady who moved into a cush position in the corporate office through her “strategic relationships” and began creating policies. Her various social medias were posted, along with racy photos which were openly available. This lead to other posts about specific people, and when it all blew up - small group in the head office talked to in house counsel and when liable lawsuits were threatened pprune cut their losses.

While it’s never a good idea to dog your employer while they are sponsoring your visa to work in another country, this was less about the overreaching and intimidating ME airline being controlling, and more about a group of expats in management not liking being exposed.

The irony is a few years later, none of the management that were butt-hurt by the personal posts worked for the company anymore, and the head of social media had no clue why there was a ban on pprune, but she was full of rumors herself.

even with union, u can still be terminated unjustly. whats the diff?
