European rail systems are far superior to the US. Their systems are from Major City Centres to Major City Centres. Resulting in far less direct travel time than traditional air travel. Greater potential of reducing carbon footprints.

The slowest of the "high speed" trains are running about 180 mph. The fastest trains are now running about 280 mph. China's maglev goes faster than that.
Japan's new maglev will go 400 mph. Canada is working on a ground transportation system, I think like the hyperloop, that will go 600 mph.

It’s always fascinating, to be kind about it, when a guy who flies jets for a living starts lecturing people about taking trains to help “reduce the carbon footprint.”

Its a matter of practicality given the advanced rail infrastructure in Europe. You have nothing to worry about, if you’re gainfully employed with a US carrier, for the foreseeable. With the exception of the Northeast Corridor (DC - NYC - BOSTON), the US is 100 years behind the rest of the world as it relates to accessible public conveyance.
