More Cathay..
I have an interview at the end of next month. I SUCK at interviews, so any help that you can give me would be appreciated.
A few examples. I'm currently on the 747 and am interviewing for that position. When they say tech. questions, do they mean on the 74 or something else. Next, they say that an hour of the process is an interview that is partly tech. and partly personal. How much are we talking about here? Lastly, is all of the training done in HKG? I am interviewing for the 74 freighter. I am going to get based in the states right? I know that some of these questions sound pretty basic, but I really don't know much about the place. I'd really appreciate the help. Best Regards, |

What is the relationship of altitude and performance of the jet engine? A forward or aft CG is more efficient in cruise? Why? ASDA is TORA plus what? Describe a fan engine? Describe how you would design a high speed aircraft wing? How many feet in a millibar? How do you prevent spanwise flow on a wing? What are the effects of compressibility? How does temperature affect the speed of sound? and my personal favorite What is the transport wander of an uncorrected gyro? If you don't have a degree in aerodynamics then you'd better spend a month preparing for the tech portion of the interview. Typhoonpilot |

I just did an interview in NY for DEFO cargo. I did not get past the first interview, going on the Hong Kong. I studied a lot, my problem; I didn't shut up after the question was ask. Treat it like any oral exam. Answer the question basically and move on, or go more detail when asked. If you have experience on the 747 know it inside out, otherwise don't go. Just my 2 cents. good luck and I think it would be a great place to work.

All the training is in Hong Kong and lasts 4-5 months. It sounds like you are interiewing for a DEFO (Direct Entry First Officer) position. You will be locked on the freighter for 3 years but you can attempt an early command if you'd like. All DEFOs are based, so you will be rostered out of N.A. After 3 years, and based on seniority, you can exercise any number of options such as switch to the pax fleet (higher pay), move to HK, etc.
Good luck. |
P.S. My interview experience with Cathay in NY was really very nice, I couldn't get a read on wether they liked me or not, but lots of respect and I was hoping for the call to go to Hong Kong. Wes.

Your current aircraft is fair game. Unfortunately for you, that happens to be one we fly so they will probably ask you about it. I have a friend that I will see tomorrow that was on the Classic at his last job so I will ask him if he got a lot of questions on it.

I'd love to hear how it went for him. I feel pretty comfortable with Classic questions, i'm rather concerned about some of the really tech. stuff. I have a lot of studying to do. Thanks again:confused: |

Ok, just talked to my friend here. He did not get much on the Classic but he did get engines, where he flew, and an engine fire question. Other than that it was just the usual tech stuff.
Good luck! |

Cathay gouge
Hey DT,
could you please send your info on Cathay to me? Thanks a million. TDXPilot [email protected] |
CX info
Hey dt,
If you're not too tired of sending your info on the CX interviews, I would really appreciate it as well. I have the initial interview at the end of August and wanted to know of any tech questions asked and all the other info needed to be prepared. [email protected] Thanks again |
There's not much talk about the SO program. Is this a good path for a lower experienced pilot at the regionals if Cathay is a long term career airline?

Can anyone tell me how long after you put in your app did you receive a call or e-mail to interview? Thanks
