Why don't you put your question to the forum, perhaps in the "foreign" section? Not to be mean but the purpose of a forum is to exchange information and knowledge... Many of us are interested in Emirates.;)

Does anyone have any idea if Emirates would hire a female? Former AA Capt., just hit 50 years old and curious. Thanks for any input.

Probably yes, if you are somewhat current. Several female pilots here, none captain yet. Check out where Emirates will be this and next week around the US. They are doing roadshows everyday at various airports. The list is on one of the threads here.

Hey Sky, good to see you on the board. You said "somewhat current". Actually it has to be within one year from date of EK checkride so they really need current within 6 months or less on joining.

I hear that the roadshow was advertised as a full page advertisement in the USA Today. Otherwise check out www.emiratesgroupcareers.com for the schedule.

Sky and TP, thanks for the info. Not that current. Left AA in 2003, and haven't done much flying. If I were trying to come on as a FO, do I still need to be current within 6mo. or less? Also, what are the trip lengths like (in terms of days away from base)? I was thinking of going to either ATL or MIA, but at this point it doesn't sound like I'd be a viable candidate. Thanks again for the info.

Oh, they'd hire you alright...just not as a pilot, I'm afraid. Can you pour coffee?;)

Sorry, couldn't resist. Seriously, I don't know, although I suspect the Middle Eastern culture would hamper your efforts. I don't even know if they currently have any female pilots! Do you?

Hope you get it! I understand it's a pretty good deal, as long as you like living in Dubai.

Yes to question one. That currency should be airline or corporate.

Trip lengths vary greatly. Anything from a morning out and back to a 9 day trip. Most European trips are 2-3 days with a 24 hour layover in Europe. Most Asia trips are 3 to 5 days. Lots of one day turn-arounds to the Sub-Continent and back. They often leave at either 10pm or 3am and return around 8 or more hours later.

Hi!

USA Jet would be interested in you, as a DC-9 FO ($39K/year-upgrade to Falcon capt in 6 months possible if U have 3000 TT). When I got here, we had 0 female pilots. Now we have 4, and 3 of them are captains. With only about 100 pilots, we went from 0 to 4%-a big increase.

If U want USA Jet info, PM me with your email.

PS-If U think Emirates is interesting, definitely go to one of the roadshows!

Reread the thread. We have a number of female pilots now. No DECs yet, but a number both on the bus and boeing.

Sky and TP, thanks for the good info. I think I'll just stay retired. It sounds like quite an adventure, but not willing to go to Dubai for the FO pay and have to (maybe) fly 9 day trips, yuck!

Cliff, thanks for the info. on USA Jet. I'm burned out on the whole flying thing, unless it would be something, seriously, different (as I would imagine Emirates would have been).

take care,
F & H
