What countries hire Americans
 

Does anybody know of a comprehensive list or some way to find out what airlines in other countries will hire Americans without some kind of residency in their home country? I know there are a lot of places in Asia and the Middle East, and I've heard of a few in Africa, but I'm curious what else there is, especially in South America.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure most of the SA aviation industry is still pretty fracked. I think TAM might have been hiring, but you'd prob have to be from one of the central am. countries. Brazil and LAN Chile prob only hire locals. Here is a brief list of companies known to hire americans w/o any residency req:

China/HK- Eva, Cathay, Air Macau, Jade Cargo, HK Express

Taiwan- Air China--but I've heard they're new CP wants Taiwanese only

ME- Emirates, Qatari, Oman Air, Gulf Air, Falcon Express

Africa- Morocco wants euro licenses usually, but there are ops in Nigeria if you're a risk-taker (Arik, Virgin Nigeria 737 based in Lagos).

India- Indigo, Jet Airways, Air India Express, Kingfisher

There are also numerous contract agencies who are sometimes reliable ways of securing employment overseas--Sigmar, Aeroprofessional, Aeropersonnel, Parc to name a few.

EVA is based in Taiwan.

Air China is mainland China, unless you mean China Airlines, which is indeed based in Taiwan. Yes, it's confusing :)

Yeah...my bad...think I've got some dislexia today or something! China Airlines is the one whose new mgmt is rumored to be pushing for more taiwanese, instead of foreigners. Air China was the one who contracted with Sierra Academy of Aeronautics in Cali to do their cadet training.

They (China Airlines) have a pretty sweet ELO deal though, from what I've heard from some guys who rode nonrev on them once...you can apparently bid like 12 or 18 days off per month and ride biz class to MIA, LAX, YVR, FRA, etc...that's sweet for a foreigner if they hire any more foreigners!!!

It looks like CAL is at least still accepting resumes for foreign pilots. For FOs, 1500 hours of turbine needed and "jet transport" experience preferred. For Captains, 500 hours 744 PIC is required.

For natives, the minimums have been lowered to CMEL-Instrument, 250 hours total, and maximum age and residency requirements have been relaxed. So it looks like they're definitely preferring native pilots and those who can claim ROC/Taiwan citizenship. But a fifteen year training bond, ouch.

I was talking to my CFII the other day, and said that one of his former students who finished the program a year or so again is at China Airlines in taiwan, and the guy is getting ready to finish his 747-4 type. I think that the guy was from Taiwan, but none the less, a gig which is very cool and that I envy. Hope I'll be at CX or else where abroad flying a 74 or MD-11!
