Are good jobs in USA long gone?
 

I am currently in the process of converting may FAA ATP to JAA ATP. It seems that in the light of the past months I made the right decision to invest more money into this career. It's seems that the airlines in the United States are really not the place to be anymore. The pay has been slashed in half and work rules are out the door as well. Half of the people at my regional are leaving overseas. Do you guys/gals think that being a airline pilot in the United States will essentially become a bus driving job that only rich kids can afford to undertake?

IMO, being a pilot in the US is a waste of time anymore. I've done extensive research on international employment, and am opting out of US jobs. Being in my mid 40's I'm focusing on retirement by my mid 50's.... It's not going to happen here. Fortunately I've done extremely well in real estate and fully liquid now. I'm done playing these US airline games, I'm sure there are international games too; but they are much more lucrative. Hence, they are worth playing.

Plenty of jobs in Europe guys, just gotta look for them. They are in dying need of Captains!!

A lot of guys here helped me with the basics, so you can use the search function. Basically I am studying for the 14 written exams and the next step is the flight portion. Most of the process can be done in the United States. If you need detailed info let me know and I will send you more detailed explanation.

How can you have the right to work in European countries? Is it possible? Do you work as as an expat?

Yes could you give me more detailed info. I guess things have changed I remember years ago trying to get hired by Lufthansa because my mother is a German citizen and besides the JAA ATP and a work permit I had to speak fluent enough German to pass German High School. I can't speak enough German to pass First Grade

I think Lufthansa doesn't ask you to know GERMAN anymore.

Hey olympic your are incorrect here. LH and LCC AB both require German even thought German and Dutch ATC practice is to use English. The simple reason is that it limits the foreigners comming into the system and due to all the paperwork and training being given in German only.

Oh ok, because one of my friend's who is half German went and passed all the testing but was told his German wasn't to the standards they wanted. After talking to him a few months ago he told me that the GERMAN requirement was stopped! I'll do some looking around.
