Probably not. I attended the last roadshow in ATL. A number of us in attendance asked about the DEC program. The company representatives pretty much shot it down. They seemed to really go out of their way to try to discourage it. They said that the program was coming to an end. That they would only consider "highly qualified" but to go ahead and apply. Also, if you are age 56 or beyond, forget it. Age discrimination is not illegal in the emirate.

When I told them that I was current, had 12,000 total and plenty of PIC time on the 767 and 737NG they said my airplanes weren't "big enough".

Maybe it was because the company representatives were british and not american, but I really didn't get the warm and fuzzy from them. Like they said, apply anyway and see what happens.

DECs are still trickling in. Did a sim session for a new one today. Not sure when he was interviewed and hired, but they are still showing up. So it seems that the program still exists to a certain extent. Hopefully it does end on the B777 as they are now delaying F.O.s beyond three years for the upgrade.

As it turns here at EK they will be short on the Airbus in the near future. My guess is they will start hiring them on the Airbus within a year, two tops.

That is what I was told by Michel.... They will start looking for Airbus qualed DEC's since the 380's start coming in later this year and the Airbus side will have a lot of movement as the current senior 330/340 captains start transitioning over.

Does one just show up at the road show? For Example, the first stop in LAS on May 16 at Tuscany Suites and Casino. Do pilots have to pay to go to that one because it's a Career Fair? The website your directed to on the Emirates website isn't clear... maybe I'm missing something, it just isn't clear to me. Thanks

Can we read anything into the fact that this series of roadshows has 14 venues, while the last had only 4?

I'd say so...if they had enough quality applicants, I'm sure they'd put on zero roadshows.

I think yes, you can. There was such a good response to the last 4 road shows that they know the USA is fertile ground for recruiting pilots. The airline needs about 200 to 300 pilots per year for as long the delivery stream keeps coming. There aren't enough applicants from anywhere else in the world for two major reasons. Europe has pretty much dried up since there are plentiful jobs there and they pay in Euros or Pounds. Most pilots make good money in Europe and it's generally a pay cut to come to Emirates. The rest of the countries in the world just don't have the number of pilots that Emirates needs. For Americans the pay doesn't decline as the USD falls into the toilet versus other currencies since the Dirham is pegged to the dollar. That means Americans see the pay as pretty reasonable. With U.S. carriers dropping like flies there are a lot of pilots looking for work.

Stability is an important point when chossing an airline to work for. Emirates made over $1 Billion last year. That is with oil increasing past $100/barrel. They will make money this year and next, even with oil inching towards $150/barrel. The U.S. airline industry is going to be a bloodbath this year with mergers, downsizing, and liquidation. Stability, that is one of the many things that Emirates can offer. U.S. pilots are finding this increasingly attractive.
