ANA JP Express or Air Japan??

You will learn the best times to use your ZED if you decide to go that route pilotjones, the commuting rule of thumb is many daily flights and one sector commutes=ZED travel, not so many daily flights and multi sectors or high season travel (Christmas, Asian holidays etc.) =confirmed business class. I also do it as Lord Flashheart does it, I travel business class every month, rack up the frequent flyer miles and travel comfortably.

I remember commuting to Detroit and stressing about getting there from Cincinnati. That was with a good commuter clause. If I were to travel on a ZED fare, I would probably leave two days before report. That would put a cosiderable dent in those 12 days off. Just wouldn't want to be called on the carpet. Guess I would be a positive space kind of guy. Then again, I don't even have an interview, so this is all pie in the sky for me.

Well, we were supposed to be double the number we are now, as I have mentioned before AJX is an integral part of ANA's future business plan but we really don't know what it will look like, you see ANA will start a new phase in 2013 with the management structure changing to a holdings company overseeing all the ANA group companies, AJX role going forward is something I am curious about myself.

I spent 14 years flying in Japan and if you wish to rent, be forewarned, it is very expensive. My rent was $5000+ a month and it cost $1100/yr just to have a car sitting in the driveway. Food is high but good. Given that, you cannot beat the Japanese people. I chose not to live near the gaijins (foreigners) and it was the best decision I ever made. We learned Japanese fairly quickly (we had to). And although we are no longer in Japan and have not been for 12 years, we still have many friends there and they visit often. Our girls loved it and both are fluent in Japanese with many on line friends. If I were younger, I would go back, no questions asked.
On the IRS side, if you lived in Japan and filed permanentt residence you will probably not pay any income tax.

Thanks for sharing your experience in Japan. It looks like I will have an opportunity to live in Japan for a contract gig soon. I couldn't believe it when you said 5000 a month! It must have been a real nice house right? The stuff I'm looking at online is around 1500-2000 a month. Can I ask what city and airline you were working for then? Also, when you say filed permanent residence, and pay no taxes, you just mean US income taxes right? What rate were you paying in Japan?
Again thanks for sharing your experience.

About a week ago I put my app in with Crew, along with everything they asked for. Copy of the last 3 pages of my log book, medical, passport, and certificate. The following day I got an email asking for "additional" info which is what I filled out online except it's a pdf file. My status still says "application recieved". Does anyone know how long it takes before I get to the next step. I'm sure a week is still too early to tell.
This is the email I recieved. I hope it's good news so far.

Silver,
I submitted my info as well, and the same process happened for me. I'd say it was a couple days till they replied and we got the ball rolling. If it has been over a week, I'd drop them a line asking if there is anything else they require from you....

I sent the stuff they needed right away once I got their email. Did you get an interview date yet? What would be the next step after they got all the info they need? any idea?

He'll call you and talk to you about the process, run through your logbook and times and just feel out wether you really want this type of a job. He makes it very clear that it is a 5 year contract and they expect you to fulfill it. Then if all goes well he'll submit your info to Ajx. Good luck!
