You're there Dominican, I am not so you know better. However, I am at a similar carrier with similar issues now. If you are hiring people that cannot be Captain's in three years then something is either wrong with the T's&C's or they are choosing the wrong people. It endemic of the expat community now.
Highly experienced people won't apply when they see 50% command pass rate whether weighted or not. I was not arguing a seniority system I was arguing and experience/training system.
I'll say it again, what happens if the captain falls over OR is on rest? At any time the other pilot(s) should be able to take over and land. This includes emergencies. If not, how can they be in an operating seat.
Emirates has had to lower the requirements to the bare bone because the T's&C's are terrible, the upgrade is ridiculous at best AND they don't like their pilot's. So who will upgrade then? No-One?
I am sorry Dominican cause you're a good guy and a positive guy but ANA uses you guys to get around hiring people right at ANA directly. You do not work for ANA but a crewing company. The crewing company wants to be on the cheap. Ts & Cs have changed over the years. An example was combining pax and cargo.
If you have a 50% pass rate and that is because you cannot get the right people then something is either wrong or needs to change. For me from day one you are a captain in wait. If not you should not be in any seat.
Again, this is just an opinion.

All Japanese airlines that I know of utilize staffing agencies due to Japanese hiring/firing laws, visa issues and culture. It is nearly impossible to fire someone in Japan, not as much from a staffing agency. Further, a direct hire would be offered a resident visa... Not something they are keen on.

Same as it's been for the last 10 years. Time for a pay bump.

Would love to see you guys get a pay raise.
That is the downside of some of these contracts. There hasn't been enough complaining because the Canadians, Europeans, South Americans, Malaysians, Australians, etc. have all seen their take home pay go up in the last few years as their home currencies depreciate against the dollar. So they have seen effective pay raises. Once their currencies start going the other way then a welcome chorus of complaints will start.

Other than the sand box carriers, which are all direct hire, the only contract job I know of that upgrades is Vietnam Airlines. Unfortunately, that became a money maker for VAC staff, and the amount you have to pay to get the upgrade is always rising. 5 years ago it was over 50K USD, and then you had to work for FO wages for 1-3 years. They had an endless line of young expat FO's willing to pay to play.
The fact that ANA upgrades at all makes it a great opportunity.
Unfortunately the length of the ground school in Japan is a show stopper for me. Otherwise, I would have applied long ago. That is not ANA's fault, but a fact of life converting your license to a Japanese license.
